I found an old used disc plow with two round disc rather than moldboards. Sorry not to have pictures, but was just curious as how a disc plow compares to the traditional moldboard style. Seems there is lots of force being placed on a disc running almost at a right angle to the direction of travel. Anyone use this type?

My father has a disc plow. It does a good job, but it is harder to pull than a moldboard. It makes the tractor spin sideways a bit. Once you learn to use it, you will like it. They seem to do a better job on ground that has not been plowed in a long time and in areas that have a lot of sod (if you have the horsepower to pull it).

I have a Dearborne disc plow that I pull with a 35 hp Mahindra. It is just about all the tractor can handle, but it does a good job. Here are a couple of pics.

A disc plow is what we used on our farm back in the 50s. It's less likely to get hung up on a stump or large rock like the point of a moldboard will do for you.

Those discs are more like about 45 degrees to the direction of travel.

Two large discs (20 inchers) running behind the rear tires are what I used to make the raised rows in my garden. Even my 18.5 hp JD pulled these. Often thought about putting them the same direction to see how the little JD would pull them and how deep. Haven't done it yet.
