    Default Ferguson ABO-22 disk bearings

There was some discussion a few months ago about finding wooden bearings for a Ferguson ABO-22 disk. I have a Ferguson ABO-22 disk that I would like to rebuild. Someone suggested a link to Woodex Bearing Company. I wish I could remember who so I could properly thank them. They do still make these wood bearings. They are $35.00 each with about 4 weeks delivery. My disk takes (8) bearings so the total cost would be $360.00 plus S&H. I paid $100.00 for this ABO-22 disk. It's an awesome disk and worth the cost and trouble of rebuilding. stark@woodex-meco.com.

    Maybe I am confused by wooden bearings - I just bought a 7 or 8 foot ABO-22 no. 18543?

One spool (looks like steel spool with a raised slot in the off center of it) has the end broken off - somebody was using it like that and I want to buy this spool bearing - not sure if this is the same bearing and why its called wooden?

This is a heavy disk and very nice with meat left on the cutters and discs just want to make sure before I start emailing people that I am in search of the correct item?

The bearings on my disk are made of wood. These wood bearings are split to allow assembly in to the housing. If the wood bearing is removed the metal housing that holds this wood bearing has a raised place (slot?) in the center of it to keep the wood bearing centered and from shifting side to side.

I just rebuilt my ABO 22 disc this past winter.Ferguson ABO-22 disk bearings-pics-phone-172.jpg Most of the wood bearings were worn bad, so i repaired then with some rock-hard water putty, one was so bad that i bought 1 new one from the woodex co. The cost was about $35.00 but with shipping one item it cost nearly $100.00, yikes i could not afford all, because i put all new disc wheels on at a cost of about $320.00. The out side discs were worn down from 14" to around 12".Ferguson ABO-22 disk bearings-pics-phone-180.jpgFerguson ABO-22 disk bearings-pics-phone-168.jpg I took every nut and bolt off and painted it Fergerson Grey. Very nice post and a very nice rebuild of your disc. If you don't mind me asking where did you buy the new disc wheels?

I bought the new disc wheels at Tractor Supply, took about a week, my shafts were 7/8" and they fit well.
I plan on keeping a lot of grease in the bearings so hopefully the putty repairs will hold up. Good luck on your rebuild, it was a lot of work but these old discs are one of the best they made!

They just don't make discs like this anymore. Both gangs are independently adjustable. If they did still make them I would venture to say one like this would cost close to $3000.00 these days. I think mine weighs about 700 pounds. Well worth a few dollars and a little TLC. Again, excellent post!
