As I have mentioned in other posts, I am restoring an old Ford 101 plow and it's going well. Replacing all wear parts, shares, shins, moldboards, and landsides(which I finally found). But I also have an old Economy 2 bottom Model 216. The landsides are pretty worn, not down to the frog, but getting close. When I attached new shares, they seem fairly unsupported as they are kind of hanging, as the landside behind them is worn several inches. It seems they will be likely to bend as I do have some rocks.
My question is this: I noticed the old landsides I took off the 101 plow have the same curve and could easily be welded to the existing landsides on the 216 plow, but brought down more to "back" or support the new shares. It would double the thickness of the shares and buy some time before I have to replace those. I could bring them almost all the way to the cutting edge of the new share from behind, providing support to them. Does this seem like a worthwhile idea? Any reason not to? And if I do, should I bring them almost to the cutting edge of the share?
