I am needing to replace the belts on my baler and have a few questions. Can I change the type of belt (chevron, diamond, etc) or the number of plys? Also, the local belt dealer has 6 1/2" belting on hand that would be about 1/2 the price of ordering 6" belting that the baler came with from the factory. Can I put 6 1/2" belting on this baler without any problems?

The belt surface doesn't matter much. You need to be careful in changing ply rating. As I recall, Gehl has a couple small diameter rolls with quite tight belt bend radii. Increasing belt thickness will have a definite downside if this is true. Installing 6.5" belts will probably increase wear on the belt guides and belt edges, as the machine is designed for 6" belts. Long story short, I'd not stray far from the belt thickness spec, and not at all from the width.
