Kubota BX25
I'm looking for a log splitter for my Kubota BX25. The hydro output is rated at 6.3 gpm (the pressure is spec'd at 1850 psi, I think). I've looked around at other threads on this subject and most the non-PTO pump splitters (with reasonable sized cylinders) will be slow at this flow rate but I've seen the regenerative Prince LSR-3060-3 Log Splitter Valve mentioned. It sounds like that allows the slow hydro to act more like a two-stage pump.

I'd prefer a vertical or horizontal/vertical splitter so that we don't have to lift the un-split rounds. Does anyone make a 3pt log splitter that comes equipped with something like this? Or if not, is it reasonable to start with something like the SpeeCo log slitter sold by TSC The SpeeCo SplitMaster 3-Point Hitch Log Splitter - 2153304 | Tractor Supply Company and just replace the valve, or is there more involved in the conversion?

Thanks
Jon

I was going to get a 3 point splitter for my BX2350. I was able to get a stand alone with a 6.5 horse Honda on it for about the same money. I happened to get a Speeco. Mine is a horizontal only, which is fine 95% of the time, but not so great for heavy logs. I think you will be disapointed with the performance of a 3 point splitter on you BX, but I no several people on the board have done it, its just a little slow.

hello i looked at that tsc spliter .when i cut wood i split it then throw it in a trailer as im spliting, when that spliter is vertical the tractor is in the way, in my opinion its a dezine defect.

Curbstone, Why don't you have a look at the Iron Oak, tractor mount (3-pt hitch), PTO wood splitter. It is a vertical/horizontal splitter that comes with its own hydralic pump that operates off your PTO. It will cost you more than twice that of the TSC splitter, but I can vouch for the fact that it is well built, and there isn't anything that I have put through it that has caused it the slightest problem. It would seem to me that your tractor could operate this splitter's pto pump quite easily, and that would get around your 6.3 gpm limitation. Perhaps someone like Jinman could verify that approach for your tractor. Check it out at: http://www.logsplitters-ironoak.com...ategory&categoryid=4&parentid=103&searchtext=

Take a look at Ramsplitter, they have a PTO pump, or hydro connection, Your choice and difference in cost from No PTO pump to includes PTO pump and res.

Quality built in the USA, I just got the 16T 3pt with PTO pump and res. excelent unit!

I would have gone with the non pto pump if I had a rear Hdyro outlet.... should have got that option installed on the tractor when I first got it..... I didn't want to muss fuss with tapping into the line and putting in a quick connect and hard lines. So spent the extra $$ and got the PTO pump.

I run it at 1100 rpm on the tac, (just over idle) and the splitter has all the power and runs fast enough for me as I split/toss in pile/rotate then split again repeat. And I'll say I break a nice sweat doing it. But it sure beats swigning the splitter and sledge!

A question you need to answer is what is your GPM at what RPM? The PTO Pump appears to be HIgh flow due to low RPM (540 max Pto RPM) so you get a lot of pressure from low rpm.

Cheers and have a look at some of my prior posts on my splitter (I included a pict in one for people to look over)

Cheers

I have an American 3pt. hitch verticle splitter. I had to buy the hydraulic pump with it when I bought it because my tractors don't have the hook up to run off the tractor pump. Best splitter I could have ever bought. It works fast and splits great. I have a 600 Ford and a 2110 4x4 that I use it on. One of the best investments I have made. Don't have to lift a block, just roll it in and turn block as you want to spit. Good luck.

I guess speed is in the eye of the beholder Jon. I have that exact splitter, and have no problem with it's cycle time. I can control the cycle time with the tractor throttle, up to the point where there's sufficient RPMs to achieve max pump output. On my KM454, I find that 1100 engine RPM cycles the TSC splitter fast enough to suit me. That's not a whole lot above idle. And I haven't yet encountered a single piece of wood tough enough to bog down the engine at that speed

That LSR valve will work and increase spltting times. It is expensive. You can change it out yourself.

I started out with an old used home-made splitter. Slow and cumbersome. I "upgraded" to a Wallenstien 3-point model. I didn't care for the tractor mounted version. (personal reasons....Many people are thrilled with 3-point splitters) I sold it and bought a cheaper, lighter, slower TroyBilt trailer type splitter. So I've ran the gammut on speeds, capacities, ect. What I found is even the SLOWEST of the 3 was capable of splitting FAST enough to wear my tired old bones flat out over the course of a day. "Fast" is highly over-rated from where I stand.

We have a hydraulic Splitfire splitter on our Deere 4320. Works plenty fast even at relatively lower tractor rpm's. Does split in either direction so you don't waste a stroke. If you work around outside of log you don't need to lift large pieces more than once, just reposition. You do need to lift it to the splitter the first time, a hydraulic lifter is an option.
