Side pressure on BH, Deere vs Kubota
When I bought my B3030 TLB I was days from buying a close model of deere. The Deere guy told me that about the only thing he had to say negative about the KUbota was the lack of side pressure (force) on the BH units from kubota, He explained the Deere had full pressue on the side to side motion.
I didnt think this was a big deal until I started doing alot of back fill with my bota after laying lines. It takes a few more steps to get the dirt back in the hole with the bota due to lack of power when "sweeping" the dirt back in.
BUT ....
I can also see where this lack of pressure has kept me out of some situations by keeping the unit from violently moving side to side when the bucket is on bottom. I supose if there was pressure there I would learn to adjust to the situation and compensate for it.
Any thoughts, is this true about the deere? Anyone experinced with BH operation have any input?"EVERDAY I'M SHUFFLEING" ZD326, B3030 TLB, Toothbar, Thumb, 07 gmc vmax

I would be surprised if the deere BH had much side pressure either. My Woods BH also has weak side force. I think that it's the nature of the hoes. A lot of digging force, but not much side force.

Some of the manuals I've read for small Backhoes specifically state not to use side motion to move material... the hoes are not designed for the stress and the leverage placed on the pivot can be extreme... this is my understanding.

Re: Side pressure on BH, Deere vs Kubota
Not to be one to argue on here but, I had a bx23, the sweeping motion on it was was week also, the 3030 is better but not near what I understood was possible.
I can use the hoe to lift and move most imes w/o any problems, yet while trying to move say a bh bucket full of dirt back into the hole it not possible in anything but very loose soil.
I backfill with the BH alot of times due to working on top of multiple trenches, this also enables me to pack as I work and sort out rocks. When you use the fel you only means of compaction is the tires, I have found using the BH bucket to press the material minimizes the amout of regrading you have to do later when things settle.
Another great thing to use to backfill is build or buy a "grade blade" to go on your BH, almost a must have when doing alot of trench work."EVERDAY I'M SHUFFLEING" ZD326, B3030 TLB, Toothbar, Thumb, 07 gmc vmax

Even with big excavators they are not made to do what your discribing but we all have use them for this. I would agree that it may take a little longer than we want but I have seen a big 70,000 excavator bend a boom when an union professional was doing what you discribed and was swinging to fast and hit hard dirt. Taking your time and dealing with the slowness is better than down time while getting a new boom.
If it ain't smokin' it's broken.

well ok guess thats case closed then! I have learned to adjust for it but was just wondering if other machines did a better job than what I have. I was not talking about full force in a sweep motion, just better than what I have.
Have you seen people back fill with a hoe before?"EVERDAY I'M SHUFFLEING" ZD326, B3030 TLB, Toothbar, Thumb, 07 gmc vmax
