Greetings from Upstate NY, this is my first time posting, been reading for awhile. Need some outside advice from a bigger audience, my father purchased a JD 4100 fel compact last year with a 51" BerVac 3pt snowblower. The problem is the snowblower doesn't blow the snow far enough, he is getting ready to buy a new snowblower but he wants some positive proof that the new snowblower brand he buys will blow snow better than the BerVac. The biggest problem we see with the BerVac is the 4100 doesn't have enough torq per say to throw the snow. We've looked at Puma, meteor, frontier, buhler you name it, all the dealers say the 4100 will blow the snow 50' with there blower but my father doesn't want to spend the money on a new blower to be in the same position he's in now. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Does he run it at 540 PTO RPM?
Does he bog down the engine by going to fast in deep snow?
Is he aware of the hinged piece at the top of the chute?
It should be adjustable and that changes the distance the snow is tossed.
The more it points up the farther and higher the snow will go.

I have a cheap brand and even that throws the snow 30-40ft or as close as 10-15ft if that top deflector is angled all the way down.

I have tried everything going slow not over feeding the impeller, I put my pto speed gage on the pto to make sure it's spinning 540 at governor rpm. Painted the inside of chute to keep snow from sticking. The only thing I can come up with is the blower has a three blade impeller and all the new one's have four blades.

I'm going to suggest doing a handful of searches here using words like 'snowblower distance' , or 'snowblower clearance'....... and similar words. There has been alot of debate on this site in the past regarding snowblower performance. I do recall there being talk about how many blades the impeller has....... but I'd guess the problem revolves more around impeller tip speed, and impeller to housing clearance. Generally, the train of thought is that the tighter the clearance between impeller and housing, the better (and farther) the blower will work. His 4100 should have no problem throwing snow 40+ feet in the right conditions. Unfortunately, experimenting with his snowblower performance has to be done in the middle of winter, which may take alot of the fun out of it.

Distance will depend on diameter of the blower as well as rhe number of blades.
Some blowers have only 16" 3 bladed blowers and the better ones will be 24" 4 blades.

I use a bervac 3 bladed blower (Bervac) and have to use my PTO at 750 rpm to get decent results but fortunately my tractor has a 3 speed PTO.

Do you use at max RPM's? wide open throttle might just do the trick.

I have a JD 2320 and the Frontier 54 inch blower. I'm not sure if it will throw it 50 feet, as I adjust the deflector to only throw it 20 - 30 feet. I do need to go rather slow depending on how heavy the snow is. I think the smaller blower JD has would allow me to go faster, but that was the blower they had at the time, and I have been very pleased with it.

Can't wait for snow.....
