Gannon box blade torsion springs
I have two 5 1/2' Gannon box blades. One I know is the landscaper model (the newer one with picture named "box blade2.jpg") and I think the other one is also a landscaper model.
The newer box blade is missing one its two torsion springs. So, I have 3 out of 4 torsion springs. All 3 are rusty. My post here is to find out if anyone knows where I can get the correct torsion springs. If the price was right, I'd get several new torsion springs. The torsion spring is in the picture named "springs unattached.jpg."
I'm also missing coils springs which are also in the picture names "springs unattached.jpg." However, I think these would be easy to find if I just keep looking.
To get another look at these springs, I've uploaded a picture names "springs on box blade1.jpg."
I've included a picture called "box blade1.jpg," which shows the old box blade. It will be up for sale as soon as I sort out my spring issue. If anyone is interested now, just let me know. It is in rough condition, but it works!
boxblade2 shows how the previous owner bent the lever to hold the rippers up because the springs were missing.
Here are what I think my options are (in order of preference):
1) find new springs to buy.
2) find enough people who also want springs that I get them custom made. I priced them at one place and the price was approximately $80 for the first spring and $5 for each additional spring. Sine these springs come in left and right, they said $160 for the first pair and $10 for each addiitonal pair. I'd need a few other people involved for me to want to pay the spring maker's setup cost.
3) steel a spring from the old box blade (box blade 1) and put it on the newer box blade. That could lead to having to bend the handle of box blade 1 so it also holds up the rippers. I'm not thrilled about this idea.
4) Any other ideas? My back is a bit too old to be lifting those rippers w/o the springs. I do it, but don't like it. So, I need a better idea that what I'm doing now.
FYI, my access to internet will be on and off the next 3 weeks, so fogive me if I don't reply to anything promptly.
