Chipper Woods 5000 Chipper Shredder Blower Questions

Just purchased a Woods 5000 Chipper Shredder from another gentleman farmer who had used it twice in two years. We have used in more the last month as we have 185 acres in the Sierra foothills with mixed pine, oaks, cedar and a lot of manzanita. It really eats through anything up to 5" diameter, so I am quite pleased and it has not yet bogged down on our 36 HP Kubota.

My main problem is the bottom discharge, which gets blocked unless you periodically push the chip pile away. Does anyone have experience with the accessory blower attachment? It would be nice to dump the chips into a remote pile, trailer or pickup bed, but I don't know if it is worth the expense or if it complicates the hookup and setup. Any suggestions?

I have the Bearcat 554 that does the same thing. I put a tarp down before I lower it and then raise the threepoint when it starts to fill up, pull out the tarp and empty it in a trailer. The blower would probably be much better but this is the best frugal solution I have found so far

I believe the Wood's is the same as the Bearcat 70554 chipper I have. I added the blower option after the first year. It makes chipping much easier. I blow the chips into the either the back of my Gator or a small trailer depending on quantity.

I've had it for 5 years now and no problem. It does make removing the blades a pain, but I only do it once every two years so it's no big deal.

I can't imagine not having the blower if you use it much.

Thanks for the infomation. The blower sounds like a good idea as we have a lot of chipping to be done. We used to burn, but with the prolonged fire season out here I would rather chip that wait for the rains.

I have also noticed that the tractor feels a little more "tippy" with the chipper shredder attached and raised up on the three point. Guess the flywheel and housing raises the center of gravity.

Finally, did you get the blower new and what did it set you back? Thanks again.

I haven't noticed the tractor (Grand L2900) being tippy with with it mounted, but my land is all pretty flat. It's the default implement I keep mounted from spring to fall as the counterweight for the loader.

I bought it new, and it's been 5 years so I don't remember the exact price but I think it was around $900.00 but I'm not sure.

It sure makes a chipper much more convenient. When I come across limbs down on the trails it nice to blow the chips into the woods instead of having a pile to deal with.

I have an old Bush Hog CS100 chipper-shredder that is the same as the Goossen except painted red. I have the blower attachment for it and it is handy but also a beast. When those chips come flying out of the chute behind the blast of air produced, they are making some serious speed. Whatever you blow them into will have to be deep and covered or half your chips will just blow back out. Think about a air compressor nozzle pointed toward a pile of wood shavings and you get the idea. I've chipped onto the ground and then raked everthing into a pile, but the best I've done is to cover my 7x12 dump bed trailer with tarp and blow into it. I produced about 3 yards of chips that way and managed to keep 2-1/2 yards inside the trailer. Everything--literally everything--gets covered with chips when you have a blower. Just be prepared and don't ever walk in front of the blower when you are chipping or not chipping. Just when you think it is only blowing air, a big chip will come loose and smack you. Pets and people need to always stand clear of that chute.
