Seen some videos on you-tube and was wondering if anyone else had good or bad experiences using a sub-soiler to clear small stumps and roots. i'm just looking to clear 8-10" poplar tree stumps.

I tried it and was somewhat successful, but I ended up bending the 3PH pins on the subsoiler. Perhaps yours is beefier than mine.

I haven't bought one yet, but now i'll make sure it's a beefy unit.

How big was the stump and what type of tree?

I used them quite a bit if they are rather large I get too the side and break roots , at least on two sides then pull or push if too big to get subsoiler over.

I used mine on my Super C Farmall to just cut the roots. I left the stumps about 30 to 36" high. Then used a chain to pull them. With the roots cut, and the extra leverage, they popped right out. Sounds like it may be too late for you to do that though...

The only problem I had was leg cramps later that evening, from getting on and off the tractor 80 plus times...!! I pulled 42 stumps in like 5 hours..., and not used to doing that much climbing, first thing in the spring... YEOW..!! Of course..., probably 1 out of 5 stumps, the chain slipped, and had to rehook...
