I am in the process of purchasing a L3710HST w/ a LA682 FEL
but I am unsure what bucket to get.
The standard square back bucket ( L1742A - 60” )
or
The heavy duty round back bucket ( L1743A - 60” )
The heavy duty round back bucket is $250.00 more then the standard
square back bucket.
The dealer didn’t know what the difference was.
I would appreciate any advice or information you may have on the different
buckets, i.e. thickness of material, better design, better digging, etc.
Thank you for any help / advice

Les -- I nearly got the heavy duty bucket for my L3010, but the dealer talked me out of it. Sometimes I'm glad he did, and other times I wished he hadn't.

Pros: Thicker material, more rigid design
Cons: Doesn't hold as much volume, 6" narrower than the standard bucket. In the end, the width was the deciding factor for me. I wanted a bucket that would cover my tire tracks, and that meant the standard bucket. But in wrestling with logs and boulders that didn't quite fit, I managed to bend my standard bucket a bit. So the long and short of it depends on how you intend to use your tractor. Nice choice, by the way!

Thanks Pete

Do you know if the top of the bucket on the HD round back
is the same design as the standard, “kinda weak design”?
I was hoping it was like the bucket on a L35 TL or the L48 TL
with a 1-1/4” or 1-1/2” thick wall pipe welded on top.
Nice strong surface to weld a hook on and also strong enough
to push over small trees without bending the top of the bucket.
Again Thanks for your help Pete.

I have the HD round back bucket and am very glad - the regular would look pretty rounded by now if I had used that. Do a search on my posts and you should find a series regarding bucket hooks that will answer your questions. The metal on the bucket is MUCH heavier and the top (a round tube as opposed to a piece of square channel) is quite a bit stronger. I have been working with a lot of rock and have seen the standard nuckets on well used 'botas get all kind of dimpled and rounded from use in these conditions.

The only drawback of the HD bucket is that it is available in 60" only, far as I know, and there are times when a bigger bucket would have been nice - but not too many.

The HD bucket top is MUCH beefier. That's where I bent the top of my STD bucket.

Thats just what I wanted to hear.
Heavy duty is what it will be.
I'll call my dealer first thing in the morning.
Thanks so much for all your help

I have the HD on my L4610 and it takes quite a beating with only cosmetic paint damage. If you will really work it hard go HD. If you only scoop loose materials, not dig in the ground, save some bucks and skip the HD.

Patrick

P.S. The Vogons only use HD.
