Please Explain the use of a ToolBar/Drawbar

I have had one of these things give to me although for the life of me I cannot figure out what to use it for? I have seen them many times hanging on the walls of tractor businesses etc, and I'm not exactly new to tractors but I'm having a hard time finding something to do with this thing,
I'm sure it has a purpose?
I done a quick Google search to see if I could find anyone demonstrating one in use, but all I found was one on a 3 pth with a trailer ball connected,
Heck! one of the first things I done back when I got my Box scrape was to drill a 7/8 hole in the lip of the rear of the box and installed a trailer ball onto it, been pulling trailers with it for many years, surely there are more purposses for this Toolbar/drawbar then to connect a trailer ball?

I use mine whenever I want to lift something to drag it, like brush or logs.
Without it, the load will dig into the ground when you move forward. I also use it to maintain the spacing of the 3PH arms so my MMM lift will work.

A lot of good idea's, I guess i just have to get creative and come up with a use for it, I now realize why it ws give to me;) My Bro-in-law works at a recycle business and this came through as scrap weight, Him knowing it was some sort of tractor tool He pulled it out and saved it for me, I guess the person who disposed of it couldn't come up with a use for it either :D

They're handy for pulling small stumps, like alders. You hook a big shackle through the center hole, and hang a grab hook from the shackle. Loop the chain around the stump roots, hook it into the grab hook, and lift the 3ph.

Usually you have about twice the lifting force at the 3ph as the loader, mine is around 2000 lbs. If you're going to do this, make sure the force is across the width of the bar, otherwise you'll bend it like spaghetti...

I keep mine in to hold the lift arms in place when nothing else is attached.

Great thread. I have an additional question. What do you do with a sliding drawbar? I am familiar with the horizontal drawbar, but what do you do with the sliding one? I assume one end attaches to the pin under the PTO at the bottom. Can I bolt the sliding drawbar to the horizontal drawbar and then put a trailer hitch on it without worrying about the bar rolling? Will it effectively keep the bar from going up if I lose tongue weight since I don't have downpressure? Is there anything else you can do with a sliding drawbar?

That's an awesome looking boom pole and adaptor.

I love seeing all this multi use contraptions, makes want to go back out to the laboratory and and bring something to life!

I made a boom pole for the receiver on my bucket, not sure of it's capacity but has come in handy, I'm trying to come up with a way to use it on my 3pt QH.

JB.

JB I really like the way you made the brace. I added a receiver to the top of the bucket and had been thinking about adding boom pole but was unsure how to strengthen it. Thanks for the idea.

Not sure exactly what your asking, but don't attach the fixed draw bar to the 3pt Horz bar or your gonna break something.

They make a locking device for the horz bar to keep it from rolling, it attaches to one of the 3pt lift arms and holds the HDB.

Also if your not familiar with that "sliding draw bar", you have to slide it in under the axle and pin it in the middle of the bar. It's not designed to pin at the end and swivel side to side. It should be fixed and rigid.

It comes in handy for safely pulling things by attaching a clevis type device.

"Will it effectively keep the bar from going up if I lose tongue weight since I don't have downpressure? "

GT,

As mentioned, you probably wouldn't want a rigid connection for this. Most people just attach a chain with some slack in it between the tractor drawbar and the three-point receiver hitch. You still have to make sure you have enough slack to be able to raise and lower a little bit without reaching the limit of the chain. You also have to have the chain short enough to keep the hitch from reaching the upper limit.

Yeah, I read "bolt and it scarred me. It wouldn't reach to bolt them anyway I guess.

I do the chain thing as when I dump a 5 ton dump trailer it puts a tremendous upward pressure on the hitch just before it unloads.

To the best of my knowledge, the sliding drawbar is meant to take a trailer type ball, or something similar.
