Tractor use: Paumco Products Quick Spade Combo Model# 1101-Quick Spade

I know there have been discussions about this quick spade but I was wondering how small of a tractor it have been used on. I was thinking about buying it to use on a 30 hp (JD 3120) tractor for removing overgrown yaupon hollies that have taken over a pasture. My concern is that I don't have a large enough tractor to use it in hard soil. Can anyone provide feedback as to what size tractor they have used it on?

I use mine on an old worn out Dingo - no concern what oever.
I bought mine at For Your Shore, The Lake and Pond SuperStore by Weeders Digest. and they were cheaper than anyone else and and the shipping was faster and cheaper too. I am now buying their fork grapple for some other applications next.
When I bought mine, they had a 10% discount for Tractor By Net members. (That was about a year ago)

I have one I use with a set of frame mounted forks. It is useful and a pretty good bang for the buck. For a smaller tractor I would advise using the combo bucket mountable version which would still be quite useful but will not dig as deep. The forces generated by levering the spade at the end of four foot forks would likely damage a bucket if you used bucket mounted forks. If your loader is strong enough to handle frame mounted forks (about 1500lb lift IMO) then the forks only mount version is great.

Go for it. It digs more selectively than a loader bucket and beats the pants out of working with a shovel.

I have a Kubota L3130 (32 hp) with the L723 Loader. I purchased a quick spade last spring and it works really well for moving pine trees. It makes quick work of digging the holes and removing trees. It did damage my bucket a little.

When working with the QP on the loader bucket you do need a helper to direct you because you can't really see the exact spot the QP is penetrating the soil.

I have the combo quick spade product and have used it on a Kubota B2920. One issue I found is that to tighten it onto the bucket you have to wrap a chain around the bucket and use a ratcheting binder to tighten it. The bucket opening is small enough on the B2920 that I have to use a 1/4" chain and a small binder and even then there is not much room. Any smaller opening, you would have to come up with a different way to tighten the chain.

I have used it for digging out small sapling, rocks, etc. It seems to be a well built product for that purpose. The USP driver wasn't thrilled about delivering it as it is heavy.

Regarding chaining: the chain is just there to keep the thing from falling off (at least on the forks version). If the chain does need to be tight on the bucket version then how about just drilling a 1/4 inch hole in the back of the bucket and installing an eye to hook the chain or ratchet strap to?

Ratchet strap -- great idea!

But don't wrap it all the way around the bucket or it will wear with ground contact. Sorry if that is obvious but there are manufacturers (RatchetRake) who did not anticipate those issues and have had to address them as service issues. If the ratchet just went to the upper lip or to a bolted eye inside the bucket it would work fine though.
