Not being one to tread where someone else hasn't gone before. I thought I'd ask a few questions about this combination.

I will be picking up the blower this week. The dealer is quite a distance from my home so it's really not practical to bring my tractor to him, although that would have been my first choice. The PTO will apparently need to be shortened. He said I would be okay if I had 21 " from the back of the shaft to the 3 point arms. I leveled the 3 pt arms and placed a dowel in and measured 19 and an 1/8".

The specific questions to those who have gone this path. Did my measurement sound right? How much did you have to modify yours?

Next, I hope to not have to trailer my Ch70 Big Tex trailer to transport the blower. I tow with a 2004 V6 Tacoma and I know when I'm towing with that setup. Usually, I only need to do short distance low speed transports with no safety issues since it level back roads and am within factory and regulatory specs. The dealer says the unit measures 45 inches deep. The distance between the well measures a little under that (about an 1 and a 1/2" less. I can, of course, leave the tailgate down and place the unit behind if their are no support struts if it like my rear plade or box blade. Has anyone transported their blower in asimilar size pickup bed?

Thanks for thoughts and advice.

I cannot answer on on the pto shaft, but you should have no problem hauling the blower in the back of your truck. I have had my 68" Meteor in the back of my Dakota.

Thanks,

I was hoping that I wouldn't damage the augers if it was rotated to accommodate the wheel well.

BTF,
I'm in the market for a 60 inch blower also - how much was your unit? A local dealer here is asking $2100 for the METEOR.

Thanks,
Loren

I paid 1979 with free shoes The sign at the dealer said new lower prices and free shoes til the end of Nov. Since I don't pass that way often I don't know how long they were advertising that. When I stopped on Saturday, the one unit of that size that they had was sold with a tag on it with that price, unfortunately they were already closed. I called on the last day of the month and they had another unit at another of their locations. Late last winter I was quoted 2250 for the same unit. I suspect that the unit I'm getting is last years inventory, I don't believe that matters though. Hope this helps.

I have a chipper that I have to hook up in a weird way because the PTO shaft is a tad too long. I hook up one side to the 3ph first then drive the tractor forward about 3-4" hook up the PTO shaft and then back the tractor up to hook up the other lower link arm. The shaft is about 1" too long BUT when it extends onto the tractor PTO shaft it adds an extra 2" length. I marked the safety housing to make sure I will not jam the PTO shaft and no problem. Naturally it is a temporary solution until I find the time to cut the extra length with a hack saw. I guess what I'm trying to say is you may be fine if you need to use the blower right away.
About the price of the Meteor blowers. I looked around before I bought a 60" used one and dealers quoted me about $2100 plus tax on the new one. That was in 2008.

Meteor recommends 20pto hp for their 60" Rear Blower. Your CK20HST is about 16pto hp. If you have the CK20S, it's about 18pto hp. You can probably run it ok, but you will need to operate a little slower than you might expect. We normally recommend a 55" blower for the CK20, maybe a 60" for the CK20S.

I thank all those who responded to my request for advice. I feel a little more confident that I haven't over extended the capacity of the tractor by too much. I'll use extra caution knowing I'm over the rated capacity.

Always good to know that others have "been there and done that" when your dealing with twelve inches of partly cloudy.

Thanks

I have a 60" Meteor and I used to run it on my 16pto hp Kubota. As Michigan Iron said it was slower going but I never had a problem. In deep snow 20-24" I just went slow. It even cleared heavy compacted stuff that the state plow pushed into my driveway. Again. Very slow going but much faster then if I had to use the loader.
It will work just fine on your CK20.
Enjoy.
