HI

I would like to buy a rototiller for my Kubota L2950. It is 30 hp and about 55in wide. I found 4 Gray market rototillers at a local importer near my home town. One of them is about 60 in wide and I think would fit my needs. The others are RS1200 but they don稚 say Yanmar on them but they all came with Kubota tractors. The dealer doesn稚 know anything about them. I am willing to modify the tiller to fit my needs. I read many threads here on 2 pt tillers and parts but I did not find anything specific for that model. I have several questions for you guys.
1) What is the make and model of the tiller?
2) Where can I get parts if it needs to be fixed one day?
3) Is this what you call a 2pt tiller?
4) What would be a fair price for the unit seen on the picture?
5) Do I need a slip clutch?
6) Will I have trouble fitting the PTO splines?

I ran a Yanmar RS1200 rototiller (48" wide, $300) on my Kubota B7510HST.

The rototiller came set up for the 3pt hitch. And the spline shaft on the tiller was standard.

There were no shear bolts on the tiller, so I added a slip clutch from TSC. The pto shaft that came with the tiller was shot, so I bought the shortest TSC pto shaft and cut it to fit.

I had to add a 6" long pto extension to the tiller spline shaft so the slip clutch would clear the sheet metal on top of the tiller.

The 26" long lower lift arms on the 7510HST 3pt hitch were too short, so I used the 35" long lift arms from my 1964 MF135 diesel.

I can't tell from you photos what kind of hitch you have on that tiller.

The pictures you sent don't show any one of them complete. The tines are completely shot in the picture. The three point mount is missing on the other. Half of the PTO shaft is missing. IF you can find a complete one $450 is a fair price. Keep in mind that good new tines are around $11 each. That said, the grey market tillers do an great job tilling when you get one going right. They really shine with a mulispeed PTO. They can run at 1000rpm PTO and you can travel as fast as your tractor can go while tilling.

All the pictures are from the same tiller. What do you mean by the tines are shot. What will happen if I used it like that? Does any one know a good place to find tillers in Vermont near the canadian border. Nice setup Flusher. Thanks

Another thing that I have read here on the forum is that the tines on these import tillers are designed for tilling rice paddies and are not made from hardened steel. This is because they don't need to be as tough a steel as you would need for tilling hardpacked dirt/clay, so the "tine wear" might be a concern. Just another thing to check out before you make a decision.

Don't pay more than your willing to lose. The appeal of a cheap price will be long forgotten when you need parts. Are the bearings, tines, other pieces standard?
Like the prior post indicated. They may be made to work soft soil so steel requirements may be different. Before I would buy one of these I would look at common brands or collect parts and build one. King Kutter has a good unit at a fair price and I'm sure local dealers have comparables. Do your homework before jumping into the unknown.

I've rebuilt 3 grey market tillers two got flange type tiller shafts to use the "L" tines, KingKutter with two bolts and all three got heavy plate (1/2") draft arm lugs and 3pt frame. I've use them with 35-40 hp utility tractors then. It was a lot of work and the new tines with bolts close to $300 alone. I don't pay more'n scrap for those rice tillers 'cause around here those tines go away fast. The gear boxes and chain drives do okay as long as you keep oil in them, but if something inside the gear box breaks you scrap the thing out and get another. If you can take a little time and get some with the two bolt "L" tines you might get a better tool. bjr

If I were you, i'd be looking for a 72" Tiller...60" at the MINIMUM for your 2950. My dad has a L2900 and I know he could easily handle my 72" tiller.

Unless you could get this tiller for 50-100 bucks, I'd probably pass...by the time you factor everything in getting this tiller going, you're probably best served by getting a new KK from TSC or shopping for a used one.

I would leave that junk there & find something else unless you can get it for $50.

I asked one of my friend that studied Japanese and she said that on the label it is Written ''Kubota''. I assume that it is a Kubota. There is a big importer of grey market tractor around here and he can supply parts for those tillers. He sells those unit for 1950$ canadian. They must be in good shape. If you look at the picture in this link you can see the same model as the one I am looking at. :

Rotoculteurs usagé

If you look at the center picture you can see how it was converted to the standard 3 pt hitch.

I could at least make an offer to the seller taking to accound the kind of work and money I need to put in the unit.
