My dad has a friend who has an old 3pt/60" Brillion overseeder....been "retired" outside for 5+ years....I dont have pics but looked it over a bit...seems rough, but could be fixed...chains, sprockets, etc all need to be replaced...sheetmetal is banged up but all there... He'd sell it, shot a price of $900 bucks out, but said He'd be interested in any offer...

What would you guys reccomend...I also hate to pay too much, put too much into it and while I'd have an overseeder...I woulda paid too much.

One thing that kills me is my "dislike" for 5' equipment...I'd be more interested if it were a 6 footer...or 6.5' at the minimum...

Dunno if i'd keep it...what I'm thinking of is buying, fixing up 100% and then reselling after I play with it for a week or so :)

Any thoughts/ideas/things to keep in mind?

Been lookn at overseeders lately. If I found one like what you just described, sold might be the word to probably use. If you have the time and depending on condition of the overseeder, you should pick it up for 900 clams or mabe even less, fix it up pretty like and all Then sell it for a down payment on a new 60" overseeder. Course, after play'n with it all fixed up you might like it mabe.... I priced new frontier overseeders a while back and price was give or take about $1000 a foot for 3pt models. So, $900 or obo, used need'n some work for a 60 incher sounds good to me anyway....condition don't sound to bad, but I have not seen it in person.:D

I'd say that at that price if you have the work for it would be a good machine. We normally get on average machines that work about 2500, if sharp more.

The chains don't spin to fast and are not under a lot of stress but if they are worn I'd wonder that the brooms inside the seed box might also need to be replaced.

Not sure if we are talking about the same piece of equipment or not, but there is a small seed seeder with fertilizer box on CL in the Nashville Tennessee area for $875.00. The description says it is in "A-1" condition and the pictures looks very good to me. This is a pull type instead of a 3 pt pick up type. I'm guessing this one will go quick so if interested, good luck.

The chains are not worn out, the problem with the chains is they've stayed out in the weather for 5+ years so the chain is rusted to the point its useless IMO. I dont know if they would even turn...thats how rusted it is... Had this machine sat indoors, it would be in great shape, from my lack of overseeder knowledge it looks like its been lightly/gently used (backed up by the owner) but weather has been this overseeder's downfall...

Not the same one...the one I found is currently located under 24" of snow here in Maine...:D
Even if I wanted it tomorrow, it wouldnt/couldnt happen....

I found this by pure happenstance....my dad was telling some people about my power rake, and TYPICALLY most people ask whats that...but one of his friends knew what it was and then asked my dad if I wanted an overseeder to seed grass after passing my power rake...I think he was under the impression I did this stuff for a living  but I just play around here on my 2 acres...

Here is a pic that I think is the closest I could find of it...

I'm still kickin' myself for passing one that went for $275 at a auction 'bout 5 yrs ago it was old and one bin was caved in, but I don't think the Brillion design has changed in 50 yrs. The unit shown is a Seeder and I think the ground has to be prepped substaintually to be used properly. I think a overseeder has some kind of coulter blades or openers of somekind for the seed to drop in. Wish I had a overseeder, just too many $$$$ for this po'boy. bjr

Does that means parts are redily available? That was my 2nd concern...even if I got it for free, I'd want to be able to fix it up.

Yep, I think your right, what I "found" is a seeder, not an overseeder...which is fine by me, I have this to do the prep work:

So, another question....can you use a seeder to plant turf grasses?
