I recently traded for a used 3 pt. hydraulic log splitter. I have split some wood with it but immediately saw a need for some improvements. I have a plain strait pressure 2 way valve that requires I hold pressure up or down the entire time. I learned on the hydraulics forum that I may want a detent rear stroke valve. Also, I learned that If the wood was cut at a slant it will "slide" off the flat plate on the ram end of the cylinder. I think I need some sort of "teeth" on the plate to grab the wood and keep it from popping out of the cylinders press. Some wings to keep the logs on the beam would be nice also. Any suggestions and or pics of the following would be greatly appreciated.
1) type of valve to use
2) teeth or grab mechanism
3) wings on the beam
