Well, i aquired an Agric AL50 rototiller from my neighbor. It was in a bad barn fire and was attatched to his JohnDeere 4100, whick was pretty much gone after the fire. The tiller however was still in great shape and Since i got it for free, I had nothing to loose to tear into it and see if i could fix it. I stored it at home and recently brought it down on the trailer when i was going to fix my tractor at my grandparents place. We greesed it up and hooked it to the tractor. I turned on the PTO at low throttle and the tiller worked great. Tines turned cleanly. So We decided to put some oil in it and see which seals needed to be replaced. There were a few but It was pretty surprizing that it only dripped oil after going through such a hot fire. The tiller actually still had some oil in it! After this point, we took the tiller apart and started to clean the burned oil off of it.

We drained the oil out of the tiller, a slow process. Today while i was at school, my grandpa got the seals in that he ordered from the local Kubota Dealer and took the rest of the tiller apart to get the rust off of it. I got home and just saw the tines behind the tractor so I hurried into the shop and started to get the rust off of my tiller. It was a slow process but It will pay off soon. I got most all the rust off or the tiller itself and tomarrow, my grandpa is going to clean off the 3 point assembly. Then we will paint it the original color and put it back together. The seals cost altogether around $60. It sounds like i will be able to bring my tiller home this weekend and use it in our garden. I really want to drive it down to the neighbor's house and show him how different it looks. Its pretty exciting for me.

I'm happy for your good luck but don't forget that your neighbour has had some serious loss. don't be too quick to show him the nice tiller you now have unless you acknowledge his gift to you and are offering some assistance that he may need to get his hardships relieved.

Well, Got it painted yesterday and today my grandpa put it back together. It was quite the job to get it out of the shop as there isnt a garage door so we had to carry it out the man door a few feet at a time. Once it was in an area that i could get it with the tractor, i moved it to over by the tines. It was also a hard job to get those tines back on it. Then we hooked it up to the tractor to try it out. It looks and works like new! I was so Happy! The thing about the neighbor is that since he gave it to me for free, I will let him use it any time he needs to. One thing i liked about fixing this tiller is that it only cost me $60 for some new seals and paint. Thats a pretty good deal for an almost new tiller.

Excellent job on the rebuild/refurbish. You will get a lot of use of that!

Well, I almost got away with only paying $60 but there was a bering out that made a clanking sound so that added an extra $50. Still, i got a good deal on that rototiller.

Nice job jake..... I kinda lost the touch on your "burn victim". If it was not for used and abused implements I have fixed or rebuilt, I would not have much for implements. I was like you at that age being around tractors and implements, other machines and operating them. Which also lead to fixing and maintaining them. It gave me a sense of pride to be able to do that then, and still today.:D
