That's a shame. Too much manufacturing heads to cheap labor countries. We've lost our steel and along with it the industries using steel. Our scrap iron leaves the country as well. It has a terrible ripple effect downward. Good luck with the job search!

I'm actually not from the States, but the same counts for Holland. The Germans are much more proud of their industry and are more willing to promote it. Therefor they rank with the top 3 of automaker countries in the world, though their home market isnt that big at all. Our "Hoogovens" steel ovens have been merged with British steel to form Corus, now taken over by Tata steel from India. I guess it isnt much different in the States, but i agree, too much production is heading to cheap labor countries...

Everything we do to improve environmental impact, animal welfare, workers rights, will lower our competition standard so our chicken coups that are banned here in favour of freestalls are exported to Poland where they put an extra hen in each cage, the workers health rights make it uneconomical to galvanise here so that industry is moving to Germany and Belgium, and this rant could continue for hours...

Yes, in 2002 our company started outsourcing steel frame fabrication in Eastern Europe but those guys are getting more and more expensive too... My brother in law is in the machine safety business and says a lot of his customers are talking about bringing production back home, with a high degree of automation such as teach-in welding robots, which are also cost effective at smaller production volumes.

Eventually, free world trade will level everything out... The chinese workers demand more wage, which gives them more money to spend, which ups demand, which ups prices, which makes them demand more wage: in the end they'll end up with similar ratio between wage and cost of living as us.

Then Chinese socialism will collapse eventually, when peoples basic needs are met (food, shelter) they will begin to demand freedom and human rights. The chinese government can only delay the inevitable by giving the worker a share of the wealth, but when those first needs are met, freedom will be the next, and thats what their system cant give to people...

I ordered the 6' pine straw rake, it should be here this week. The one thing I want to tell you is that on your site you have a "calculate shipping cost" button to add the price of shipping to the order (as most places do). I kept clicking it but nothing ever happened. When I gave up in frustration and called my order in your man on the phone said the button does nothing, and you calculate shipping costs. You should get rid of this button, and put a note saying just what you are doing about shipping. I bet a few people just give up and do not order due to this.

I'm sorry you had trouble, but we're unaware of a calculate shipping button because our system doesn't have the ability to calculate any additional shipping costs.

When you add something to your cart, our Free Shipping Policy page comes up that includes an explanation for those that are outside our free shipping zone:

It says:
"For those outside the free shipping area, we welcome you to place your order just as if you lived inside this area. Your credit card will not be charged until we contact you with an exact shipping amount to your location and get your approval.
We will get you the best shipping quote possible, and have found that our customers outside this area once they receive their shipping quote still decide to purchase from us!"

This gives us the ability to run multiple freight quotes and save the customer as much as possible, without relying on a computer to do the job. Also, if a customer is purchasing multiple attachments that can be shipped from the same location, it is sometimes possible for us to ship them without adding any additional freight.

The "free shipping" link did show up, the Calculate shipping cost button is on the check out section where it shows the price. I was on an iPad, although some sites act different on phones and tablets, I think it is there on your site. Try buying some thing and see if it is there for you. You may want to get rid of this button.
