Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
Lots of old balers that fit that bill, I have a newholland hayliner 67 behind Farmall H (25 hp roughly) that works awsome. Most new ones require more HP but a few are for small HP.

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
You could run something like my MF-124 small square baler with your 3600. It takes 34 pto hp (min).

I run it with my 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD).
Found the baler on craigslist locally. Paid $2000 and hauled the baler right out of the seller's field (he used in the previous day to bale on his 35 acres).

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
Thanks for the help, Im looking for an older model, but having trouble finding any info on them, I live in Ga and we have a market bulletin that sells used balers, I wont be able to afford the new ones , and researching all the ones listed is getting time consuming with little info being found on the tractors hp requirements

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
My first was MF #9 used it behind a JD B, 430, 520 & 620, works best with 520/620 because of live PTO. I sold it this fall, paid 1500 & 8 years later sold for 1350. I found a NH 273, its newer & I believe makes better bales. You should have plenty of power for any old baler you find.

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
The small square bale Massey bailers now seem to be inline bailers which seems like a good idea.

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
I went to several auctions with a friend that really knows his stuff. I found several and all of them turned out to be worn out so bad that it would cost an arm and a leg to get them going again. Buyer beware!
Good luck.

Re: Hay baler for 40hp tractor
I use a 214WS John deere baler behind my Ford 4000 diesel; seems to have plenty of power. I'm hoping to get the IH 46 & 47 balers I traded for going; they're twine & wire is so expensive (though most folks in this part of the country use wire). If the 46 & 47 are successful I'll probably sell the JD but if I don't like the twine tie I'll keep the JD and one of the IH for a backup. These were built back in the '60's when lotsa folks used smaller tractors to bale with.
