wondering if anyone has used a set of pallet forks combined with a grapple and if so did it work ok or not. Any pics would be great to.

I think it'd be handy. Been planning on doing it to mine.

I want to do the same; instead of adding a "thumb" grapple to my bucket, I can only think it would work much better on my forks.

I have a grapple that i use on my bucket that works OK but I'm in the process of building a SSQA for my loader and also a set of QA forks. Was thinking it would work a lot better to move limbs and logs with the grapple mounted to the forks than the bucket. So that may be the way I go instead of using the grapple on the bucket.

I have a grapple for my bobcat and I love it. One thing I want to do is be able to drop a tree, then lift the tree in the grapple and cut it while its off the ground so that I don't have to bend over to cut it. I can't do that with the bobcat because it would mean exiting the Bobcat and going under the grapple and that is way dangerous (hydraulics let go, I die).

I'm going to make an adapter so that I can remove the bucket on my JD tractor and use the grapple in its place.

One thing to keep in mind with these grapples is that they are heavy. My grapple probably weighs about 1100 pounds. So when using the grapple on the Bobcat, I lose a lot of lifting capacity due solely to the weight of the grapple. In other words, if I can lift 1400 pounds and the grapple weighs 1100 pounds then I can only pick up a tree weighing 300 pounds.

The tractor can lift more than the Bobcat. Still, I don't think I would want forks that attach to the grapple because of the weight of the grapple. Forks by themselves aren't that heavy and hence I could lift more.

Instead of combining the weight of 2 attachments, couldn't you come up with a way to use the forks by themselves?

A simple thumb wouldn't weigh much. 100lbs?

I mounted 'The Thumb' grapple on my Horst forks - It works great for moving rock, trees, cutting log length wood, etc. I will post pictures later.
