Two years ago I purchased a used 2004 Woods GTC52 tiller along with a Kubota B7510. After one use I noticed an oil leak where the rotor enters the frame and chain housing.

I have purchased a new oil seal, and was told by the local dealer that the seal can be replaced from the outside, meaning the rotor doesn't have to be removed to reach the bad seal.

Upon removing the chain and sprockets I am left with a bearing that blocks access the the seal and no obvious way to remove it. Can this bearing be pulled to access the seal or does the frame need to be disassembled and the rotor removed?

I am attaching photos of the bearing as well as the parts diagram from Woods. The bearing is #6 and the seal #62, bottom center of diagram.

Thanks,

AG

AG,
It looks like you'll have to remove the 2 bolts # 46 from the side plate . That should allow you to remove the side plate. HTH

I just finished doing this same job on my tiller on Friday. Mine is a Challenger but is very similar to your Woods. I had to remove the opposite end face plate (3 bolts) which allowed me to remove the rotor easily. The bearing and seal are in one, removable housing. I unbolted it from the chain side face plate, popped out the old seal and replaced it in about 10 minutes. Reassembly was quite easy after that and I am back in business.

PS: I did not buy the gasket for the chain case because it was $48.00. A tube of blue silicone works very well for this purpose and is a whole lot cheaper.

I did my Agric Tiller last year. I had to pull the rotor. The seal was on the back side of the short jack shaft seen in the photos. A lot of work for a $6 part! Worth it in the end though, replaced some very worn tines too. Wish my garage looked like some I have seen here but the job got done.

I really appreciate the replies. I'll pull the rotor tomorrow and see what I find.

How did you get the bearings out to get at the old oil seal? thanks. Matt
