I have a Woods MD184 rotary cutter. There is a slip clutch that is part of the PTO drive assembly. I need to disassemble it to replace the friction discs.

My first concern is removing the guard from the Neapco driveline. I can't see how it comes off. I have read in other threads where you put screwdrivers in some physical features and unlock something. I find three places I can put tools in, but my visual inspection of the assembly is telling me that won't work. I would like to disassemble and remove the guard without destroying it.

How do I get that shield disassembled and removed? I have slid the PTO shaft apart in to two sections.

My other question has to do with the slip clutch. It appears you have to disassemble one of the U-joints to get the slip clutch completely apart. To do that will be quite cumbersome, holding all those pieces in my big vise. Am I missing something here?

I would appreciate anyone's input on guard removal and slip clutch disassembly.

Thank you.

I got it.

Maybe you could provide the procedure steps you used for removing the guard and disassembling/reassembling the clutch and reinstalling the guard?.... cause you know that someone someday is going to be searching for that same info :) And I'm curious to know how you did it.:D

I have a M54-4 that i am rebuilding and used the parts list on Messick's for my disassembly. I also down-loaded a repair manual from Woods Webpage. Good luck!
