A friend of mine hooked me up with a young man who's apparently quite the welder. I talked to him about building me a carry-all and after quite a discussion about how it should look/function, here's what he delivered to me -

It's 67" wide so it stays inside my rear tire width and is 36" deep. The side and back plates are 30" tall with the total height at 40" at the top of the framework.
The sides are removable by unbolting several bolts (he went a little overboard on the number of bolts but, it is strong!). The bottom, sides and back plates are 1/8" with 1x1 square tubing for sides, back and top framework and 1x3 tube for the bottom frame.

All gusseting, lift pin and top link attachment plates are 1/4" steel. He finished it off with a black 2 part epoxy paint that is hard as nails and then put a SMV sign and some DOT reflective tape on the rear. The whole thing weighs about 500 lbs so it makes a nice little counterweight to add to my 800lb loaded rear tires.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it and I'll try to get some better pictures of it in the future!

Nice, the young man does very good work! From what I can tell, the welds look pretty good too. Are you going to tell us what he charged to build it?? Just curious what something like that would cost to have fabricated....

Well, he charged me $750 for it. He put in a lot of hours and his work is excellent.

I'll bet that if you replace the top 3pth member with a slightly shorter piece of chain you could carry a load of firewood, sand, etc, then lower it to the ground, unhook the chain, and then raise the 3pth to dump your load.....Lower as you drive ahead a few feet, reconnect the chain and go back for another load....
Beautiful piece of equipment and worth every penny

Hey pat32rf! I have tried that very maneuver by just unhooking the top link and raising the 3pt arms - dumps like a charm! I'm wondering if I could get enough travel out of a hydraulic top link to do the same thing. And thanks for the compliment!

I'm not sure about a tailgate Thomas - I need to use it for a while and see if it would be a good addition!

Nicely done and great pics of it as well. At $750.00 I think it is well worth it. A lot of work and thought went into it. Should last for many years.

Thanks for the compliments Mousefield, the guy did a great job for me!

Nicely done! Great work on the build and fabrication of the unit. Will come in very handy for just about anything you throw at it. Great job and would like to see some pictures of it in action.
