I just purchased an older 8' offset JD disc. Its in very good shape. I think its a model 225. What is your opinion of this disc? Will my Ford 7710 fwa pull this disc ok? thanks

Don't know the size of your Ford, but we used a 10' John Deere offset (wheel type w/22" blades) with a 58 HP JD 720D! ~~ grnspot110

If you could get a picture, that would help a lot. Is it similar to mine?

Your tractor should pull it without any problems.

You will have plenty of power, that tractor will not even know the disc is back there. Ken Sweet

Finally got this disk all back together and am about ready to hook it up and break some ground. I have read everything I can about disk size and horse power and I really hope I have a good match with my disk and tractor. Many have mentioned that I can use the hydraulics / wheels to regulate depth of plowing. Are these disks actually designed to use the hydraulics and wheels for this application, or is this just something that is done when folks overpower their tractors with a large disk? I always assumed the wheels were used strictly for transporting the disk while not tilling ground.

No, no, no..........while they may be called "transport wheels" by the engineers they are a part of the use of the plow. You never just dump a plow (be it a disc, moldboard, chisel, etc) all the way and never look back.

An 8' offset needs 10hp per foot in the average clay soil to operate appropriately. Your tractor has that. We don't know your ground or your specifics. A 120hp tractor could struggle through a field with that plow while a 60hp tractor on another piece of ground wouldn't have any problem.

This is where your plow and it's transport wheels come into play............do you need to monitor how deep it digs or can you bury it considering your tractor and soil?
