Hey all... this is my first post but have used this site for a lot of research from time to time. I'm looking for a little advice if you don't mind. I plan on looking at a 48" bush hog while on vacation next week. The gentleman claims it is a Land pride. It obviously has been repainted but hardly used according to him. Based on this picture, can any of you tell me if it is a Land pride... maybe an older model??

Thanks... rodney

General design looks like LP. I have a newer 48" LP, which has a curved rear and different link to the wheel. But there are similarities. Looks like it sat out a lot and there is "rust" under that paint.... best to take a screw driver and see how solid that metal is.

Cheers

My 60" Land Pride is about 10 years old now. Every Land Pride cutter I've seen has had a rounded skirt on the aft end (as whiskeyswamp describes). That one doesn't (obviously). It does have the Land Pride beige paint though.
However, that robust 3PH hookup does look like Land Pride.
Even with a repaint, there should be some Land Pride markings or plates, so look for them while checking out that deck. In the picture, it looks pretty solid, but pictures can be deceiving.
Old cutters aren't worth a lot of money (even old cutters from quality manufacturers), so don't offer too much. $300 (if in decent shape) would be my top dollar for a 48" unit.

thanks for the reply and advice... I'll be sure to check the metal out when I go look at it. the guy selling it said he bought it at an estate auction and it looked like it had set out for while... he basically bought it to repaint and sell.

Thanks... :drink:

not having the rounded skirt is what threw me off... $300 is pretty much what i was thinking as well. I don't do alot of bush hogging but need one for for a couple fields I plan on planting food plots in this fall... and to maintain them. I can't seem to find any used 48 inchers around here and was hoping to avoid the expense of a new one.

It doesn't look like my newer LP models, but if it is sound, I wouldn't worry about who made it; looks like a pretty good unit from the picture.

As mentioned, you will want to do a thorough going over.

That is a Landpride mower for sure! I had one JUST LIKE it for about 10 years, tough as nails too. Mine was labeled as a 15-48 model. I bought it used at a dealer for $450 twelve years ago, but $50 of that was for two new blades installed by the dealer. I thought it was a good deal then, still do. Two years ago I sold that mower along with the JD 750 I used to have, the new owner posts on here occasionally, but he's still cutting with it. If you can get that one for somewhere in the $400 range, I say jump on it! Below is the best pic I could dig up of the one I had. If you need a 4ft mower, I'm betting you'll be satisfied with the one you're going to look at (if you can get it for a good price). It does look to be in very good condition with not too many hours on it. Good luck!

thanks guys... from the looks of it, the craigslist posting has expired so he hasn't had much luck selling it for the the asking price of $500. I'm going to give him another call and see if he's willing to negotiate before towing my trailer along on vacation. I also just found a 48" woods brush bull, hardly used and not too far away I plan on calling about today... maybe I can snag a deal there and save the trouble of hauling the trailer while traveling next week. :drink:
