First off great site. I lerk here often and decided to join. I was hoping that you all could help me identify this brush hog. I am needing to get a few parts for it and can not find a name on it. The past owner is unsure either. He does know it was bought in the early 70's. As far as I can tell it has been repainted at some point but I see red under the red. I can find no tag or name on it at all. Also the side does remove and was like that when new. The past owner also thought that maybe it was a Black Brothers brand or maybe something with brother in it. Here are some pictures. Thanks

If you haven't already, I'd raise the mower and rotate the gearbox over by hand to feel if it's rough. Most old gearboxes leak oil (and it appears you or someone has recently topped it off--good), but if the bottom seal is leaking and you plan to mow much, you could run it out of oil and ruin the gearbox.

It will likely still mow a lot, but it would be good to know the condition of the gearbox before spending a lot of $$ on it. You probably can replace seals or get a new gearbox if necessary. Or, if it's going to be a beater mower and it's leaking oil, one (poor) option is to fill the gearbox with axle grease and just keep mowing till it dies. Those old gearboxes have a lot of meat in them!

Hope this helps.
