I just bought an old Ford plow (photos attached). It is labeled FORD MODEL 10-336, S/N 1542. I believe it is one of the "101" series plows (seems to match an owner's manual that I downloaded from an old TBN post). It is a 12" model, based on frame measurement.
The plow seems to be functional as is, but I would like to purchase a set of new shares if they are still availble. The diagram for a 12" Ford share (on the Wiese Products website), shows three mounting holes with a note that two-hole and three-hole shares are interchangeable. My plow shares have two mounting holes but their pattern does NOT match the Ford pattern shown. The pattern does appear to match that shown for an OLIVER 12" plow.
I also found an old TBN post that stated some Ford 101 plows were manufactured by Oliver (and some by JD).
Does anyone know if those Ford 101's manufactured by Oliver actually use Oliver shares? Any other suggestions or information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Your 101 looks like an earlier model, but I think the modern shares will still work on those. Look at page 33 on this site for diagrams of the shares. http://www.osmundson.com/media/pdf/Parts_Catalog2008.pdf
They show the hole spacing, etc. I am pretty sure 2 of the 3 holes shown will line up to yours. If that is the case, then you can buy the shares at TSC or Agri supply, your local tractor dealer, or some of the sponsors on this site. If you can't find the shorter ones, you can use longer shares with no issues too.

From your photos, it doesnt look like the shares are badly worn. Bolts dont appear to have alot of wear either. So i'm wondering why you're thinking of replacing the shares? Is there some share damage not visible in the photos?
The points show a little wear, not bad though. They can easily be built up with some hard surface rod and reshaped with a 4" grinder, if they are not engaging the soil as they should.

I agree with CharlieS. These shares look pretty good. I believe I would try it without replacing them. I just restored a very similar three bottom last year. Your plow looks much better than mine, seems in great condition! Good find. I see more wear on your landsides than on your shares. Be careful that the landsides don't wear down so far that the frog (the main frame that the landsides are bolted to) starts engaging the ground, or it will start wearing the frog as mine was. I found landsides for these plows are almost impossible to find. I searched all over the country before I found mine. You may want to have a welder "scab" on some new steel to the landside edges to buy you some more time, rather than replacing them. Also, don't forget to have new shear pins available when you start plowing, because if you hit a large rock or root, the pins will shear and trip your bottom. This happens fairly frequently in my rocky soil, but is a quick fix (if you have new pins) I use a regular Grade 5 bolt in the appropriate size (I think it is 5/16??) You will also need to carry a hammer and a punch to punch out the broken one. Out of curiosity, what did you pay for this great plow?

That point/share in the picture has lots of life left. I would plow on. May want to check the shins for wear? Ken Sweet

Thanks for everyone's comments and reccomendations!

Yes, the plow does seem to work well now - I am just learning how to use it so results aren't pretty yet, but I will work on that.

Knowing that parts for these old plows seem to be getting scarce, I would like to have a spare set of shares. Mr. Sweet, I sent an email to your company address.

I believe the shins & landslides have a lot of life left in them, but will keep and eye on them. The frogs are still well protected for now.

The Osmundson diagram does match-up with my plow. It is different from the sketch I had found on the Wiese website.

I paid $200 for the plow. Found it about 40 miles away on Craigslist. I have replaced three bolts (both shear pins & and the bolt that the front plow pivots on when the pin shears - a previous owner had installed "sort of fit" hardware in those positions), and i have cleaned some rust & scale. I plan to paint it soon.

Thanks for everyone's help!

John. would you care to fax 270-528-3333 the hole layout on that point. Overall length also would be good? Ken Sweet

I believe the two holes 1" from the top edge in the 12" diagram below are accurate for my plow (diagram from the Osmundson website). I measured the longest length of my present shares: one is 16", the other is 15 7/8".

I haven't removed my shares yet, and probably won't until I can obtain replacement shares - mine will have to be cut off. I talked with your Operations Manager this afternoon and he tells me this years stock has sold out and you won't have more until next spring. I may look around locally, but there is no rush, so I will likely contact you again next spring.
Thanks!

Sorry, not trying to highjack, but I started a new thread for my purchase yesterday in NE PA. I'm still looking for an owners manual, to help me understand why the off-sets of the horizontal hitch points. How to maintain, grease, etc. Some much thanks to all!
Where can I find an inclusive manual for a series 101, model 10-462? What is a shin? How to measure the share size? What is the tail on my shares called, etc.

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/204095-did-i-get-good-deal.html

Kent Sweet has already responded that I got a very good deal.
I need help with a site to download( hopefully FREE) original owner/operators/ maintenance manual.

Much thanks again!
and Happy Easter
regards,
Steve
