Box Scrapers are BIG!

Hi,

Just a data point for newbie's like me...

I stopped at the local blue tractor dealer this afternoon, just to see if he had any box blades at his store. I saw a lot of different big stuff and that Large box scraper over there...

Figured it was for a BIG tractor, but decided I would look at it anyway just to see how it was put together. It was a landpride.

"Wow this is big" I am thinking. As I am about to walk away I notice it has a number. B1572 is what it was, if I remember correctly. I know the 72 is right. It was simply a 72 inch box blade!

Don't think I want to put something that big on the back of my B2910 Kubota!

I'm certain now that 60" is the max size for me, for sure!

So...to you newbie guys like me out there...be sure to take a look at box blades before you make your decision on size. The pictures in the literature or on the web site don't convey the physical size of these things!

And to think I was considering taking my ford passanger van and going to pick one up!!! WRONG move that would be...unless I did not mind tearing things up inside...

I went to pick up a 60" Bush Hog rotary cutter and a Bush Hog Post Hole Digger with my mid-sized Dodge Dakota this spring. My dealer said "Pull your trailer around back and we will load you up". What an idiot I felt like (I had no trailer with me). I had to borrow one of there trailers and a 2" receiver hitch just to get the stuff home.

I know what you mean. When I bought that medium duty six foot cutter, I thought wow this thing is really big and really heavy.
However, after you cut 10-20 acers with it those 15 ft batwings do not seem big enough! [img]/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif[/img]

i run a 72 " box with my 2910 and love it! i dont think i would want to use something smaller. i have never run out of power yet with the nice clay we have here in maryland and i can fill it with stone till it is over flowing with out question in mid range.

i like being able to run up the right sid of my drive and down the right and back up the middle and i am down cleaning up the drive. i am sure i could do this will a 60" but now i cover 72% of the drive on each run instead of 60%

I'm using a BB1560 60" on my B2710. I can fill it and still have power, but I lose traction first. For turning in small areas and such the 60" is all I want (I have a 7 foot landscape rake and it's a pain to maneuver around). Does a great job. I'm going to have wear plate welded to the bottom of the sides this winter and I think I'll be set.

I got my L3000dt on friday and played with the 60" box blade all weekend. My woods bb 60c came in today. guy delivers it and i put it on the tractor . i thought man it's big and i was going to get the 600. but luckly i thought about the weight over 1000 lbs. the 60 looks big behind the tractor i guess i'm used to seeing one behind a ford 3600. but the tractor pulled it like it was nothing. cut great and the tractor never bogged down. just keeped humming.
but i guess i'll get used to it.

If u put on skids make them AJUSTABLE
One of the best ways is to use 3X4X3/8"
angle iron and slot them then bolt them to sides of
box.
Cut a triangle out of each end and bend bottom
runner up to make it angled on bottom.
Them u can set them for what ever the job is.
Use boards under blade for gauges 1",1 1/2" or ??.
and take off for dirt work.

Hi,

I FINALLY decided and ordered a Woods HB60 box blade today. It has the lockable rear blade that floats when not locked.

Hope I did good! Really don't ( and won't) know...will have to use it first to come to some conclusion...
