I have been doing this way for years without accident even pulling up a moderate incline without front wheels coming off of ground, am I pushing my luck by not using a drawbar but instead using the very handy 3pt trailer hitch? The JD compact 670 weighs around 2500lbs. Trailer is 22' and single axel weighing about 2800#. The 3pt is all the way up in the photos, but not when I am moving it.

Someone will find a reason it's dangerous, but only you know what it "feels" like. Tongue weight is the concern, not so much total weight. If it's been working, it must not be too bad.

I am guessing tongue weight at around 300#.

Just don't go up or down a hill with that setup. The trailer could push or pull you? Be careful. Ken Sweet

Just wondering where the mirrors are?:)

Do you use the trailer for accommodations as you move from one mowing job to the next?:D

I move my boat the same way. The boat and trailer weigh around #3000 my tractor with loader weighs about the same or a 200-300 lbs more. I move the boat VERY SLOWLY and even pull it up and back it down an incline. Always do the incline in 4wd and never rely on brakes only. I just leave it in low gear and that way I have breaking effect from all four wheels via engine break. I would say if you put weight on the front of your tractor there is no worries just go slow.

That 670 is closer to 2000 lbs, BTW. Good looking old tractor!!
I think you'd be more comfortable with a few suitcase weights up front and, as Ken wrote, that trailer could be the tail waggin' the dog. But as long as you take it slow and careful, I see no problem. No quick starts!

I was figuring in the loaded tires and the deck.
