PHD out of grain auger?
I have an old grain auger behind my barn that I used the shaft off of to make a yard roller. It was given to me by a local farmer. I have not looked at the auger portion yet but I just wondered if anyone has made a PHD from a grain auger. I suspect the shaft would not be study enough but I have not really looked at it yet. Any thoughts?

Re: PHD out of grain auger?
Not only is the shaft not heavy enough, but the flutes are also much lighter than what is needed to move dirt...
Grain augers are built as light as possible, Dirt augers are built as heavy as possible. KennyV

Re: PHD out of grain auger?
If you pull it apart you notice that the flighting of the grain auger isnt much more than just thin sheetmetal. ie perhaps you MIGHT get a hole or 2 dug if you had really sandy soil, but it wouldnt be worth the trouble of building it vs just getting a normal PHD.

Re: PHD out of grain auger?
I kind of figured what you all said, I just hadn't taken the time yet to take the auger apart to see how it was made. Thanks for your input!
