My toplink nut is stuck. The link itself won't move since it is spun as far as it will go towards the tractor and the nut is tight up against other end. I banged on the wrench with a hammer until my hands hurt and even sprayed WD-40. Thoughts? Ideas? Secondly, it is righty loosen, lefty tighten in this case right??:)

It loosens and tightens like a regular nut. It is not a left-hand thread.

Try putting a long pipe wrench (or chain-syle pipe wrench) on the body to turn it. Maybe even a cheater bar. Yeah...the paint will take a beating.

There is always heat if you have a torch. That works 99.9% of the time.

I take stupid award of the day for trying to loosen the wrong way, but I did try both ways and it was really stuck. I loosened it by spinning leftward and using the pipe trick.....thanks...this forum is great.

In the future, keep on hand some penetrating oil. The Liquid Wrench stuff that's widely available works pretty well. If you have something that is horribly badly stuck, try Kroil, an industrial grade penetrating oil ("creeping oil").

Adjustable toplinks have one end threaded clockwise, and the opposite end threaded counterclockwise. Otherwise, you would not be able to lengthen or shorten the assembly.

kebo
Some links have a lock nut, and I think that is what the OP was asking about. :)

I use anti-seize on all fasteners, never can tell when you have to take something apart.

I liberally use antisieze in many places....but on a toplink? Naaah..that would be really messy..:confused2:

Most of my toplinks have a grease fitting -- maybe it is to keep it lubricated?:D

+1 for Kroil. Great stuff.
