Hi all,

Anyone would share his thoughts on this : Would a 45-55 or so HP tractor (NH boomer3050, Kioti DK45 or DK55, MF 1652) be strong enough to drag a 3 bottom 12-16" plow ?

Thanks, Phil

Biggest factors to consider are:
The weight of your tractor and tire style R4 Vs R1
2wd Vs 4WD

Pull type or semi-mounted

soil conditions: Lighter loam Vs hard pulling clay, sod

Old rule of thumb was 15 - 20 HP per bottom.

I have seen soils where a 50 HP tractor stuggled with 2-14's

Depends on the soil condition and how much ballast your tractor is carrying. 3-12 or 3-14 would be the max and 2-14 or 2-16 may be better if the soil is tight and rocky? Ken Sweet

In loam soil with a IH424 two wheel drive which would be considered a 45 horsepower tractor could pull at about 4 mph.

That was with three hundred lbs on the front and one set of rear wheel weights with no liquid.

The MF 1652 will b big enough if ur plowing in good loose soil. You may need to add water to the rear tire for added pulling.

A WD-45 Allis was designed to pull a 3-14. Just scour dirty shares and moldboards before you sock er in the dirt so you won't be disappointed from the get go.

You can use a Weiss Mini mold-board conversion for your plow if you have one already.

One of the past champion national corn growers-Francis Childs uses them and he stated they are a major reason he obtained 405 bushels per acre.

The moldboard is designed to leave more trash on the top to aid in conservation.

The Weis Mini Moldboards suck deeper and have less surface area on the moldboard to reduce friction.

They are available for-

AC, Case, 3 IH models, 4 Deere models, MF, 15 different White plows
depending on the plow model the bottom sizes are 14-20 in replacement equivalent and they use standard moldboard bolts which are supplied with
them

I am sure they offer more of them for different plows by now-my catalog is 8 years old.

3 factors.

1st soil
2nd tires (R1's)
3rd weight of tractor
