What\'s a good price for a box blade

I have had my B2100 for abot 6 months and have never enjoyed doing "work" more. I am ready to buy a box blade and am wondering what a reasonable price would be. I have seen them advertised in the Northern Tool catalog for ~$300, Carver Equipment has them for ~$350, and my local dealer sells a Woods for $575. All have 4 scarifiers, replaceable blade, etc... Is the $575 for the Woods reasonable? Is it worth that much more than the others? if s owhy? BTW, I'm looking at a 48" box. Thanks in advance, Mike.

Prices do vary. Whether the more expensive box blades are worth the extra cost is something you just have to decide for yourself. Some are much heavier and stronger than others. I broke welds on the first two cheap ones I bought, and that was with a B7100. The angle of the blades is different on different models and the method of raising and lowering the scarifiers is different (some are quick and easy and some even have nuts and bolts you have to take loose; too inconvenient). Almost any of them should be strong enough for your tractor. You just have to look them over closely to see which one you think will work best for you.

If my memory is correct, Woods only offers one 48" box scraper model. If I’m right, the question is if you’re dealer’s price on that model is fair or not. $575 might be (and sounds to me, to be) somewhere around what MSRP would be. That price may or may not be fair, check with another local dealer on a comparable model to see.

Like Bird said, it’s your decision to make on spending the extra money on a Woods box scraper. Check weights of the scrapers, that can say a lot in terms of quality. (I think the standard duty woods is about 400lbs)

Mike, I've only had my 6' box blade about 6 months, paid $300 for it out of a field full of box blades in mid-Missouri. I wish I would have shopped a little more as I have been real unhappy with the way they designed the adjustment on the scarifiers. This box uses a notch in blade and an L-shaped steel rod to wedge the blade against the slot in the box. Plus it only has two height adjustments for the scarifier.

I've got to agree with you though that having a tractor sure does change your attitude about work.

Paid 500+ for my woods gb60 box blade and have done nothing but given it severe punishment. I swear you cannot hurt this thing.

I booght the 5ft from Carver when I got my tractor and have been pretty happy with it so far. It's pretty heavy duty with cross bracing on the top back corners so I can't possibly see breaking a weld. I'm not thrilled with only 4 scarifiers, should have 5 for a 5 footer and some of the more expensive ones do but I don't know how much an extra tooth is worth.

Try TufLine's web site, monroetufline.com. They are a manafacturer but you can email them for a dealer in your area. They make good equipment. If you check their site you will find the specs on their equipment.

Try KingKutter's new XB unit. I have one and I have never had a problem with it. I modifier it to fit the imatch hitch so I can hook it up in 30 seconds rather than 20 minutes. When your 13, it is hard to lift the implement to hook it up. It is a 48 inch unit, 4 teeth, and reversable cutting edge. Very nice implement! I payed $425 for it from Wilco.
