Tractor
kubota 4200
I've looked at the TSC ones. Considering a Landpride and a Leinbach but the favorite by far is the Woods DHM7. Local dealer has one on his lot asking $1550 for it.My tractor is a L5040 kubota with 44 pto HP. I like the idea of a 7 foot disc giving me 6 inches coverage outside of my tire tracks. The Landpride only comes in 6 and 8 feet. The Landpride is also about $300 more than the Woods and Woods is heavier. Anyone have any experiance with a Woods medium duty disc? Looking to disc and level some very rocky/rooty areas that would be too hard on my tiller. Will then use it to put in some easy food plots for quail and turkey. Don't mind repeated passes as the areas are small.

Heavier is better. You need a minimum 50lbs+ per disc to be effective, and you may be adding weight on top of that. You will never miss the 4", dont worry about that part. Monroe tufline makes real good discs too. Woods looks nice.

MY god at those prices!! If the woods is heavier and cheaper thats a no brainer and wider like u said u wanted.

If it was me id buy a good heavy duty used one that is like 30+ years old. You can probably find a good heavy old disk for less than $700 and i think that would be a high price for a good heavy one. I could probably find one more along the $500-600 range for that size. Id buy used and save the difference for something else. Pick up your loacal farm bulliten classifieds, do yall have an iwanna or iwanta around there, use Craigs List?

Very true, here's mine. Paid $520 off CL for this old 8' rust bucket, looked like it had maybe 30 acres on it, gotta look past the rust!

just picked up a Brush Hog six foot disc that was sitting in the "junk pile" in my dealers yard. Asked if it was for sale. Reply was that yes it needed a couple of bearings as it was assembled incorrectly originally. I paid $500. for my "old" stock "new" disc including new bearings and reassembly. There are "deals" to be found. Note: when looking at "old" disc check the bearings and look for fractures in the disc.

Hey HR
Your just being humble !
That's a dang nice "KING" disc harrow you got there. Once again not to be confused with "King Kutter".

The one in the picture and many others use sealed bearings rather than the older "spool" type bearings. I'd stay away from the spools unless you have very little to do or enjoy working on equipment. They work, often are cheap, but require much more maintenance.

I believe you can still find spools at agrisupply. It's just a wear part, no big deal. I think for most folks doing under 10 or 20 acres a year, they can work great. That said, I sold my old 6' ford harrow with spools and bought that king for another $150. I use mine all the time for a small food plot planting business.

True, but its not the end of the world to swap a bearing or a couple discs. These are only $10-$15 parts. Could save you a bundle for a half hour of work. If it needs all new discs and bearings, it better be a sweet deal though.

Why not a light-weight unit that will be easier to handle and store ?
