Heavy Duty Rototiller advice
I am a project superintendent for a heavy/highway contractor in Southeast Louisiana, and I am looking for some advice on tractors and rototillers.
We generally use a machine called a "stabilizer" to till powdered cement into soil, and a Rome disk to process wet clay/sandy soil to prepare the roadbed. It is not cost effective to use this stabilizer to just till soil, unless one is available and just sitting in the yard, not being used for soil cement work.
I am researching 100-125 hp tractors and a heavy duty rototiller to use in the soil preparation.
Any and all advice, comments, suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Heavy Duty Rototiller advice
Are you asking if you can use a stabilizer machine to roto till, similar to this. This machine will mix/till soil from 0 - 400 MM/0 - 15 in, or, are you thinking of a pull behind stabilizer machine.
Soil stabilizer SS400-23 machine products, buy Soil stabilizer SS400-23 machine products from alibaba.com

Re: Heavy Duty Rototiller advice
Phoenix T30-GE Series Heavy Duty 100" 3 Point Hitch, Tractor PTO Driven Rotary Tiller from Sigma or CCM Gear Drive Rotary Tillers Get the heaviest one you can get. Heavy duty machinery isn't expensive in the long run compared to the downtime and repairs of lighter equipment.

Re: Heavy Duty Rototiller advice
When you have the time look at
www.northwesttiller.com
High horse power rototiller with 14 inch actual cutting/tilling depth- meaning the 14 inch blade length of depth in tilling from the rotor.
It is a high horse power belt drive from the gear box to the tiller to absorb shock loads.
They occasionally have used rebuilt units for sale as well with warranties.
you can pack a lot of horse power in a very wide or narrow width tiller if desired.
Another option is a stone burier , where the european brands are a deeper cut.
The cane farmers in your neighborhood will love to hire you post harvest or in prep
you as you can prep can ground in one pass with one of these and add a bedding unit for
ridge tillage in the first pass to avoid wet root rot.Last edited by leonz; 08-27-2010 at 06:34 PM.
