Rotary Cutter anybody use a MX10

Hello everyone. I am going to purchase a 10' pull type rotary cutter. Right now I have narrowed it down to Bush Hog or JD. I borrowed a freinds BH 3210 and liked the way it cut. The only problem I had was with the weight of the drive shaft. I found it difficult to support the weight, pull back the collar, and alighn the shaft. I have seen that the JD has an intermediate shaft and thought it might be much easier to attach. Anyone had experince with the MX10? Thoughts and input are most welcome.

Thanks for the response. I read that one, just wondering about the 10' and how people liked it. I'll just be cutting pasture, but have quite a few trees.

I bought a used JD HX 10 pull-type this year. Use it on my JD 4520. The hardest part for me is getting the mower started with the 4520. I am a little on the small end for getting the thing turning. You will have no problem with you bigger Kubota. Mine has a CV pto shaft. I suspect the MX 10 does too. The CV shafts are just heavy to lift. Mine is 540 pto, which combined with the CV shaft allows really tight turns. I have a 15' bat wing JD HX 15 with 1000 pto CV shaft and it will not turn as tightly.The HX 15 shaft is even heavier and usually a 2 man job. I can put the pto on the HX 10 by myself. What I do is place wooden blocks on the hitch at the pto height. Then set the pto on the blocks and slide it on. Then I only have to align the shaft and slide it on without having to hold the pto in the air as I try to align the splines. I mow some 3" cedars and brush with both mowers. Just take it slow over the bigger stuff. Heavy grass bogs down the tractor more than trees or brush. Both of my HX's were bought used but in excellent shape. I have had no issues with either.

The mid duty MX has a bit thinner deck and skirt than the HX. Gear boxes rated for a few less hp. MX 10 weighs about 300#s less than HX 10. The MX 10 should be a good mower but I would have no problems owning a Bush Hog either. My HX 15 weighs almost twice as much as my HX 10.

I have a slewing MX 10. I am able to mount it to a Hesston 100 90 DT without any help. Attaching the PTO shaft is not really any trouble, especially if I leave the mower centered on its slewing axis. The tractor's lower links extend, and that makes hooking the mower up pretty easy. Extend the links, attach them and back up till they lock up.

I have no complaints about the mower, it has been good to me and I have abused it, unintentionally, but that is what it took for me to find all the rocks in my orchard over the years.

The bush hogs are just overall a better mower in my opinion. The 3210 is a heavy duty mower and the mx10 is a medium duty mower which may make the shaft a little bit lighter to lift. I have a bush hog 3126 and it is a job to get the shaft on. I also have a jd hx15 and its a nightmare to hook up i always dread it. Jd makes a really good mower but in my opinion nothing compares to a true bush hog brand.

Cant comment on the MX - ours is a old Howse. But the cut of our twin blade10' is really nice. With a "high speed, 1:1.76 ish" gear boxes those 5"+ blades are making some speed! Do you know what the gearboxes are rated for? who makes them? what about the "slip clutch" and drive line? Hows the frame look?

I saw a single blade 8' at my shortline guys shop - IT WAS HUGE. :drool:

BE CAREFULL of the extra width - I have yet to ding my 8' but... had to do some wellhouse repair last time the FIL hooked up to the 10':laughing: he pulls it with a Fiat-Hesston 566 - darn good looking tractor but I just hate gear/clutch/all them knobs - call me spoiled.
One thing I did find out was that a 7 or 8 or 10 foot twin was around the same money so go for all your tractor can handle
