Any of you that use flails have to get out and keep cutting out grass that gets wound up around the blades, shackles and shaft . The guy thats mowing the fields has to keep doing this alot , lost the bearings in one of the flails because the grass got so wound up that it was just smoking hot . Is this a common thing ?

Its common if the forward speed is too fast, Just like

leaving rooster tails of brush with UGH!, Brush hogs.

The problem is he is mowing to fast in forward or reverse,

thats why its making a mess for him, and if he continues

to mow in a faster forward speed the problem will continue

and he will continue to have these issues.

He has to slow down his forward speed if you have tall brush period,

The brush wil be mowed/sliced to compost with no worries.

We have knocked down 12 foot brush with a 36 inch Mathews Co. Lawn Genie.

The othe thing that might be causing the problem is missing knives on the end of the drum.

leonz, have you found any where other than mathews co to get knives for your lawn genie. I have tried flailmaster and several others with no luck.

Good morning Bill,

Hope the weather in your part of the universe is mellow, Its been prety ghastly here of late.

I can no longer buy the knives from Mathews but I will be calling Flailmaster and Clean cutter to get prices for batch purchases as the tapered knives (which are so much better to use and own as they are much more aerodynamic than the standard knives and cut very well-Yes I am a tapered flail knive addict like you  and I will send you and Island Tractor the prices for them.

Its so nice not have to use tools when changing blades:thumbsup:

Mathews only offers the standard short grass slicer knives for them now but the young man who owns Clean Cutter and the gentleman I chatted with at flailmaster by e-mail saw no problem in making the tapered knives when I chatted with them.

I just have to get off my duff to do it as i have been a bit under the weather for the last few months.
