I would think you could match a bean or corn plate to plant pumkins. Do you have any idea about the size of the seeds you are going to plant. You can purchase blank plates and make your pockets/cells. Blank plates can be had from Lincoln Ag products. Lincoln also sell ready mades if you can match your seed size. I saw pumkin plates on E-bay last planting season, but they were very expensive.

well im new at the planter thing me and daddy always done it "the way that works best" and after 5 acres of corn last year im done with that way i called lincoln ag a few times last week but never got a answer ill try em again tomorrow ive been lookin at a soybean plate to use maybe cut some teeth and weld some up im not sure how to size a seed i know the pumpkin seeds ill be planting are about half inch to 3/4 inch long for large pumpkins and flat so thats got me wondering will the seed get trapped under the plate and just grind instead of being picked up whats the deal with a blank plate you just drill out the size groove you need?

I have a XL spreadsheet that I have compiled that gives the dimensions of the cells in plates. I can send that to you on E-Mail. May be able to do it here, but I don't know how. Inquire at this address if you want the XL sheet.

I don't think you will have a problem with pumkin seeds going under the plate, but due to thickness of the plate it may plant 2 or 3 seeds at a time. Seems that was the way we planted the pumkins anyway.

In looking at my XL sheet and you seed size description, I would say the cast iron 1255 soybean plate might work. The cell dimensions on it are .781" long X .421" wide and .312" thick. The 2527 cast iron has same dimensions, but is .406" thick. The 1255 plate is pretty common and shows up on E-Bay regularly. I could probably sell you either one if you are not successful elsewhere. Quite a few corn plates that may have some possibilities too.

yeah found the info on spacing gotta have a 12 cell plate and the 9 tooth sprocket that doesnt come with the planter it says something about a drilling distance attachment to double the spacing so if i had that the 9 tooth sprocket and a 12 cell plate that would put my plants at about 4 and a half feet apart almost perfect for pumpkins wonder where i could dig up a distance attachment at lol

My nieghbors plant with a model 290 JD planter that uses the same plates as a 71. They simply take any old plates and block most of the openings with epoxy (JB-weld, etc). You can also enlarge the openings with a grinder if necesary. It is very easy to get a perfect match for any seed size or plant spacing requirement using this method and starting out with any plates.

I think you may have a hard time finding the B27436. I have only ever seen one on ebay. I use my cole 12mx planter for pumpkins and squash but have set up one of my 71's for pumpkins as well. I use the Lustran B015-16 sunflower plate with false ring BFR-2. I filled in all but three of the holes and enlarged those to fit 2-4 seeds. I use two 14 tooth sprokets for 40"-44" spacing.
