Flail Mower Anyone Know Anything About This Mower?

I am curious to see how it works with the hydraulic toplink. I have tried using the slot instead of the pin hole, but didn't feel I had the control I wanted.

It is generally better to use the slot as flails are designed to use the rear roller to follow terrain and having a rigid toplink defeats that.

By the way, someone with your mechanical skills would be able to install rear remotes in a couple of hours. Try it, you'll like them.

Thanks IT, now that I ordered the HTL, I'll be more motivated to install my remotes.

As for using the slot, perhaps I didn't have something adjusted properly, but it seemed the mower had a tendency to want to tip forward (toward driver). Any suggestions?

hydraulic offset!!! That's pretty cool... I don't know how to setup a flail mower... maybe that's why I got rid of mine :ashamed: I just bought the parts for 3 remotes and plan to post about it... hopefully in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the photos!

Couple of things to consider. First is that tipping forward is controlled largely by the position of the sidelinks. If those are set to a height where the mower is roughly parallel to the ground then it shouldn't tip forward. Second is to be sure you have the toplink mount, the two big triangular slabs, mounted so the toplink slot is parallel to the ground. On the Caroni it is possible to assemble it backwards so the slot points down towards the front. Don't embarrass me by asking how I know that. The toplink is then set so it is in the middle of the slot when on flat ground at rest. Third point is to check the roller height. If that is set too high for the cut height you'll find you are shortening the toplink too much (opposite is also true).

Basically, if the mower is set up properly and the side and toplink adjusted correctly the toplink will move around in the slot but the mower should not tilt forwards. If everything is basically set up right I'd play with sidelink height by raising it until the tipping forward stops.

You'll find the hydraulic topping lift great for adjusting position in the slot too.

If none of this helps I'd suggest sacrificing a virgin or two to Pele. Aloha.

Thanks IT
Puppy sitting right now. Dog on left is named Pele :)

If those looming clouds don't open up after breakfast, I'll review my setup, but I think I may need Remedial 3pt 101. I normally mow with 3pt all the way down, letting flail float. My property is so uneven that I get a very uneven cut if the lower links are set at a height. Works good when doing the taller heavy stuff first pass, not so good on final. I'll review my total setup.

Did a quick look when I monitored my PV system. As you can see in the pic, my TL is not parallel and might not be able to do so. Further checking required....

I have a few of the Value Leader products, being that I live 6 miles from Betst I don't have to worry about shipping. Keith, the owner stands behind his products and they give you a good result at a good price for those of us who don't do unlimited heavy commercial work.
I currently have from him:
6' finish mower- used once works OK. he warned me to grease the shafts often; and there is a fix if a shaft fails due to a grease problem.
rear 3 point water roller- I love this tool!
His cheapest boxblade. Had to add a real cutting edge and a piece of rr iron for weight. Also boxed the attach points. Eventually this unit may fail, but as long as I can weld it I will- For 100 dollars, i didn't loose..
5' offset-able rear blade. Works OK not used as much as the box blade

I just bought a 6' brush hog; Keith has let me store it at his place as the wife doesn't know yet...

If I really needed a flail mower, I would get one of his

Having the 3PT sidelinks all the way down will tilt the mower towards you. Try using the sidelinks a bit higher and lowering the roller if you want a closer cut.

I will be passing by you on my way to pick up a 60" flail this Sunday. If you don't use the deviace more then 10-12 times a year it should be perfect.

I just picked up the 64" medium weight (700 pounds) version and it lookd great. Keith seemed to be on top of his game and for now I only have 100% positive vibes for this company!
