Backhoe Added a ripper to my Woods BH90x: Trees beware

I was thinking cut high for nudging over purposes.

Yes, I was only referring to the few low branches/trunks that extend outwards and therefore interfer with getting the ripper close to the main trunk. What I found was that I would rub the vulnerable top side of the dipper against those while digging so I have started ripping them off with the BH but sawing would be efficient if preparing more than one tree at a time.

Moving tractors for digging trenches with a hoe gets old quick.
Almost worth renting a mini-ex if you have any great distance to go, though for what you describe a sub soiler might work, depending on your soil.

Moving the tractor is clearly the limiting factor as you note but the ripper could do this faster than a bucket. I would imagine using the ripper it might take less time to do a couple hundred yards than the time to go rent and return a trencher.

I scored an almost unused Woods TSG-50 a couple of weeks ago.
It had 5ft hoses, with the way the hydraulic outlets on the tractor I will use it on the most are positioned they ran TIGHT, so I changed them out for 7ft ones, I just got those from Surplus Center a couple of days ago.
Now, I do KNOW about rotting stump remains and sink holes, but for slow rotting species I accept that the appearance of "shallow depressions" in a few years may happen, some MAY need fill - a few years from now.
Others can probably be left as "interesting contours in the landscape" depending on future intended use, etc.

Digging stumps IS time consuming and DOES leave some BIG holes, which also settle over time, despite any hauled in fill.

So, mayhap I will measure up the pin spacing on my Amerequip 8600 hoe and send off for a quote anyway.
As I said, BOTH is usually better than EITHER/OR (-:

The Backhoe QA is already in the computer. We are still going 6 days/wk on Snow Plows / Snow Blowers in the shop. Looks like we will come over the hump in December. The Backhoe QA around the 1st of the year???

Maybe the proto-type should be for a BH-90X ?

Island-- installing your ripper-- could you make a bracket for a hydraulic auto jack to hold the ripper? Then you could lift and move the ripper fairly easily into position.

I just finished mounting my MIE ripper tooth (same as IslandTractor's tooth and backhoe) and I used my overhead chain hoist to lift and a floor jack to push up and curl. I first attached the tooth on the floor to the dipperstick ram, then tied up the hydraulic thumb in the wide open position and started the hoist/floor jack jockeying of the HT and tooth to shove in a smaller pin to hold everything together for the final alignment.
All this was done with the backhoe on it's dolly with the tractor hydraulics attached but not four point connected.

Yeah, that was my plan but now I'm thinking I will wait for MIE's quick attach. If a quick attach allows picking it off the ground without needed to thread the pins then a complicated storage mount device may not be necessary. The big guys (excavators) just drop them to the ground and use the Qa to pick them up.

I just hope I don't need to use the bucket anytime soon.

My ripper is 3/4" plate. I have a slot cut in the top plate that the blade fits in and is welded top and bottom. My machine is small and I don't think the lateral load will be great. I am just using it for cutting. I have a quick attach that is hydraulic. I can change from bucket to ripper in less than a minute. I have a coat of paint on it today. I will mount it up and show you guys the quick attach. Yanmar comes with a hydraulic quick attach, stock. If you are interested, I can take some pictures of the grapple bucket I adapted from a miniskid steer to fit. We had a huge storm a couple years ago. It paid for my goodys in short order.
