I'm considering a set of Horst Pallet Forks HD2048 for my 300 loader mainly because I can get them immediately. There are other and better options if I wish to wait. The 48 inch-ers with 2K load capacity list at $725. They weigh about 300# which is less than the Frontier forks that are rated at 3500#. I've seen the Horst units and they look strong enough but they are not of super high quality (meaning rough welds and paint) but that really isn't about function.

What do they typically sell for from dealers?

$725 is about right...Horst has a good reputation as well. I assume these are new? I also feel that 42" forks are better suited for a CUT.

If you have the tools, build your own. I picked up a pair of forks w/top & bottom bars off Ebay for $239/shipped!

Most forks with 4000lbs cap, which most rate at 24" load center of the tines, are going to run right around $700. But if you want a fork that will literally out last your current tractor and the next 3 you will own, the Berlon class III are the only way to go. We have a pair of forks that have been abused hard by S250, S300 and T320 Bobcats, the forks must have over 4000hrs of use and have never bent, broke or had to be welded on ever. $700ish is reasonable. I thknk mine were $675 or so. Just make sure they are not too heavy as most things made for skid steers often are.

My Horst forks are high quality. Gave $600 almost 3 years ago for a set of 3700 lbs HD3748 Horst forks with my JD 790 w/ 300 loader when I bought them new. Best attachment investment I made. Use them more them the bucket and glad the JD dealer talked me into buying the 48" over the 42" and Horst over Frontier.

Thanks for the replies. I bought the 2048 Horst units through my JD dealer. They did offer me about a 15% discount, although it involved my picking them up from the distributor, which meant no handling or shipping on their part. I got them yesterday as I needed them later this week to unload a truck.

I can see some real use for these. I easily moved some tractor implements around and have used them for moving some downed timber to a more convenient location where it will be cut into firewood.
