I read alot about different box scapers here. I will buy one this winter-- a 5-footer for my JD 4300. Around these parts, Northern California/Placer County, Gannon Boxes are really popular. Since the gannon was the original box scraper, is it the name I'm buying, or are they better built than the others?

Thanks

Gannon which is now owned by Woods arguably makes the heaviest boxscrapers available. When at your local rental outlet, check the boxscraper on the industrial tractors like the JD 210's, chances are its a 96" Gannon. I have a Gearmore boxscraper which is not built quite like a Gannon, the noticeable weak points are in the hydraulic ripper setup. While its not likely that any compact is going to deform even my Gearmore, the Gannon has even more steel in it, and thus more weight. Weight in the box scraper as a matter of design and build strength is in my opinion a very desireable quality. My box scraper is about 1000lbs for a 72", the same category Gannon (4X2) is about 1200lbs. For the ultimate in stability/ballast and strength, Gannons got it.

IF you are going to use your box blade to make money then I'd say buy a Gannon. If you will use it 3-4 times a year then buy one from the lot of Power Creek or Gold Country Kubota.

HI,

I went through a lot this summer trying to decide what to buy as far as a box scraper goes. I FINALLY decided on a Woods HB60, but really wanted a Tuffline...wanted the heaviest and best...

Turned out I waited so long to make the decision that I NEEDED one NOW. The dealer told me there would be a delay in getting the Woods as they had none on the shelf...I NEEDED ONE. I COULD NOT WAIT!

Soooooooo I ended up getting a $299 King Kutter from TSC.

And maybe I don't know what I'm missin', but it works real well, behind my Kubota B2910. Now maybe a heavier one would be better, but...the KK does at least what I expected. I figured that I could always sell it for half price next year if I did not like it and buy a better one. But now I am pretty sure I will just keep it and /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Just a data point ... your mileage may vary...

[ /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif can't spell worth sheet either...]

Gold Country

Rat,
It's my business to have that information for MFG's and anyone else that will pay me for it.
