Does anyone have a good source for renting compact tractor attachments in MA or CT? I have been looking for a place that will rent a core aerator for a day. The closest I have found is a NH dealer that has a Gill spike aerator/seeder, but it is 6' and probably too big to use with my B2410.

Check with a rental store and ask for a Ryan Core Aerator. It is a walk behind unit with a motor. Rates are usually $100 a day or $65 a half-day.

You will not likely find such a place and anything they have to rent, if anything, will be too large. Afraid you must purchase your on. Good luck. J

CCI,

Thanks - I'll probably end up renting a walk-behind unit. I usually go out of my way to use my tractor, even if it means suspending common sense/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

TresCrows,

Good point. I think I was pretty lucky even to find a place that had the spike aerator/seeder. I was tempted to give it a try, since our lawn could use some overseeding, but the 6' unit looks to weigh in at just over 1000 lb. The guy at the dealership said 'It'll never lift it' when I told him I have a 24 hp Kubota. I'm not so sure he's right - the tractor is rated to lift 1655 lb at the pins and 1300 lb at 2' aft of the pins. I'm pretty sure it would lift it empty, anyway, but it's too wide to get at all areas of my lawn and I'd probably need the loader on and a full bucket to keep things balanced, etc.

I saw the picture you posted of that 4' First Choice aerator that you picked up - It looks pretty nice. I may go that route eventually, if I can find a place to buy one around here.

Try Carver's or Sweettractor. Even with the shipping, much cheaper than the alternatives (Landpride Woods etc).

I'm very happy with my 60" model. Bought it at Sweettractor.

I've found a couple places in NH that rent 3point equipment. But I was put off by the price. $100/day for a landscape rake (york rake). You can buy one for $300-$700!

I'm pretty sure I saw first choice aerators at Woodbury Tractor in Woodbury Ct, not far for you.

Brad,

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll take a ride out to Woodbury or give them a call.

$100 a day fora rake is quite steep...especially considering I rented a yanmar excavator on tracks, brand new with only 15 hours on it, for a full 8 hour day, with delivery for $250.

So I got a machine that costs about $27,000 for less than 1% of the cost to purchase, and a rake is costing about 30-50% of the purchase price!
