Rylee root ripper

Would like to draw on the experience of you folks. northern equipment has a device called the rylee root ripper. I would like to use one for grubbing out stones, digging fruit tree holes and removing stumps. I would be using it on my Q.A. FEL the tractor is a mx5100 4wd. any thoughts on this tool. I do not have a back hoe. thanks

Here is a pic of the one you mentioned, and a pic of mine. I have a tree digger, but it doesn't have the teeth. The teeth would help cut the roots better.

Hi All -

I own he bucket you mentioned. When I purchased it, they called it a stump bucket - similar to the one in the picture. Mine has three teeth and is very effective in digging out stumps. You have to work around the edges and break all the roots, then pry the stump out. I have used it in transplanting trees and in removing rocks. Very happy with the results of this attachment. Had it two years with no problems.

There is a fellow on Craig's List in Salisbury MA who has a few of these buckets for sale. (Brand new.) I don't have the heavy duty one, and it has worked great for me; but I think he sells both the heavy duty and light duty. His phone number is 978-462-9099. Give him a call. I am using mine on a FEL on a Kubota 3240. Works very well. I also forgot to mention that I put a drain line in for my nephew (200' long and 2' deep) by just straddling the trench; and I was able to dig the whole thing with the bucket.

I have put 6 hours on my new Rylee Root ripper using my 25hr old MX5100 HST. It is worth every penny for getting out stumps of all sizes. Smaller ones up to 4" or so depending on type of tree will often pop right out with one try. I know a BH is the best tool for this job and I have seen them used but I don't think the root ripper leaves a hole any bigger than the BH not much bigger anyway.

I cleared an area of about 30 trees this time last year and they varied in size from 4" to 18". Unfortunately at the time I cut them all flush with the ground because I had a L2900 then and no plans to dig them up with the FEL although I have dug some in the past but it requires a Big hole for even a small stump with a 5' loader bucket. Since they were flush with the ground I had to dig deeper than if I had some tree to push on to help lever them out. But I think 6 hours is pretty good for 30 stumps. Several of the larger ones, 12" or so, were cedar.

Hint: Once the stump is loose in the hole get it into the root ripper while still in the hole so you can use the far side of the hold to help get the stump into the ripper. Once it is on flat ground it is much more difficult to get it into the ripper to carry off.

Sorry I don't have a before picture but you would not have been able to see the flush cut stumps anyway. This is an area in front of an old house we are restoring. Just pushing back the forest a little.

I am not to happy with the tines you see in the picture. They have fallen off two times in the short time I have used them and they bend easily. Maybe the MX5100 is just to much tractor for that product. I have them so tight now I think I bent the mounting arms some. They are OK if you are careful and they do a great job of picking up stuff without having to get off the tractor but you have to be gentle with them. I had some for my L2900 that connected over the front edge but were held on with pins through the sides of the bucket. Those never came off and they would bend but it was a lot harder to bend them. They were harder to mount and unmount but they became part of the bucket. Guess I'll have to use my QA pallet forks for the heavy lifting.
