    Kubota B6200

Default bottom plow for small Kubota?

We purchased a 19 year old kubota B6200 4WD (15 hp) in early December along with a BEFCO Till-rite rotary tiller and a custom-made single blade bottom plough that will attach to the 3-pt hitch. The plough looks a bit heavy for the machine, but it was cheap, so we thought we'd give it a try all the same. The Kubota Workshop Manual says the maximum size of the plough blade should be 12".

Does any one on this forum have experience using bottom ploughs with a B6200 or comparable tractor? If so, what are the specs on your plough(s)?

We want to plough about 1/2 acre of flat, flocky land then roto tiller it, so that it can be planted with fruit trees, grass and vegetable garden.

Thanks in advance to any one who responds to this posting. Peter

I've got a kubota L210 (21 hp 2wd) and came across a 14" single bottom plow that seemed like a good deal. Not enough tractor for that plow. A pic or some measurements of the plow should get you some advice around here.

Traction more than HP will determine the degree of success with your plow. What kind of tires do you have on your tractor? Are the tires loaded? Soil conditions,of course, will also factor in. With the right set up your tractor will work fine with a single blade plow.

Here's a few photos of the tractor and plow. Yes, the wheels are filled with calcium chloride. I don't have the measurement of the plow blade with me (probably 12-14"); I'll post that on the weekend upon my return to the "farm." Thanks for your help with this query. Peter

I'd wager that you will pull that one bottom plow just fine with your tractor.....provided you have some "normal" soils.

Having that coulter mounted and set up right will give you the best chance to succeed as that should help lessen the draft of the plow.

I think you wil be OK. Getting the plow set up correctly so it will pull at the correct angle will be the most important part. You may neet to load the rear tires for added traction. Correct setup in most inportant.

I may be wrong but it looks like draw bar that holds the hitch pins needs to rotated 180 degrees.

I agree. Weight and traction are the key. I bought a 2-bottom plow last summer that I thought my tractor would struggle with. But it handles it with ease...thanks to loaded AG tires and overall weight.

    Peter:

I have a kubota L2900 (29hp) that handles two 12" bottoms in heavy loam. I plow about 6" deep at about 3mph, which is (allowing for turns, etc.) about 1/2 acre per hour.

As others have said, your 16hp is plenty for one 12" bottom in most soil if you have the traction. I suspect you do have sufficient traction, with your 4WD and the cab. And you can always shift the plow a bit to take less than a 12" bite. So your 1/2 acre should take two or three hours. Ford Tractor had a good book in the 1940's about setting bottom plows, and I have a pdf copy. PM me if you want me to send you one. It's interesting even if you only plow your 1/2 acre one time.
