Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1215, Case 801B
I want a snowblower.

I have a Massey Ferguson 1215 tractor. This is a 18hp tractor with a 15hp PTO. What size snowblower could I run? I'm pretty sure it would handle a 4', but they are hard to find used. There are a few 5' blowers that have come up for sale, but I'm afraid they'd be too much for my tractor.

Does anyone have experience using a tractor this size to blow snow? What do you think it could handle?

My Massey is 23 hp, 18 at the PTO. It handles the 54" snowblower, but I wouldn't want anything wider than that. I have to go pretty slow when the snow is more than a foot deep. I'd say 48" would be just about right for your hp.

We have the New 50 inch Buhler/Farmking for $1995. Ken Sweet

As a reference Kubota shows 51" blower for by 18HP BX. Depending on your "normal" snow fall amounts you may be able to handle 60" just fine. Remember the first pass is the only time you have to take a full swath.

How wide is your tractor.??

I would go 6 or 8 (max) inches wider than your tractor.

I would guess that a 54' blower would just about be the ticket.??

Get one that's the width of the rear tires.

I use a B7100 16hp and 13HP at the PTO, I'm at 6500 feet and the engine is tired so I figure I really get ~10HP to the PTO. I found a used 54" blower which is about 6" wider then my tires and it works, slow but steady. With the HST i have no problem keeping the right speed to load the blower but not overload the engine. As "slow" as I have to go in big storms (24" plus) my neighbor has an L34?? with a rear blade a bucket, I can clear his driveway in about 1/2 the time in a big storm and I don't leave big piles to deal with later. If your using an HST machine I wouldn't worry about going with a wider blower, just understand you may need to slow down on the first pass.

I have a Buhler 50 Farm King on an 18 horse 15 horse pto tractor. I can tell you from 4 years of first-hand experience that I wouldn't go any bigger. I can handle any snow up to about a foot but any deeper & she'll power out. Makes a shuttle shift transmission invaluable. Sorry, Ken, I didn't know about you when I bought mine. I paid 1995 for it delivered 4 years ago. Only way I'd get rid of it is if I got enough out of it to buy another one.
