This is a great site....information galore. But I have a question for the 790 owners:

Can the JD790 handle a King Kutter 72" box blade, primarily to remove potholes and to maintain about a mile of gravel road with a rocky base? It is basically flat, with just a couple short, shallow hills. The road has been top dressed about every 2 years, but there are enough holes now that that is just spreading 'money'! Up here in NW Montana this is the best time of year since all the potholes disappear under the ice, and driving is easy!

Thanks in advance........

Due to the 790's relatively light weight, I think you'd be happier with a 60" box blade unless the work is very shallow.

I agree with Roy.

What type of tires do you have.?? Just curious, shouldn't matter much.

Thanks for those answers. I thought that would be the best also....just thinking maybe could limit the number of parallel passes on the road a bit. Tires? R4's, filled, usually with chains. I also got a response from Everything Attachments via email, and that I didn't expect.....they must be very good with the customer service.

I do use a 6' rake and a 6' rear blade and the tractor handles those tools very well. And, the 64" snowblower is an excellent match for the 770. (24hp)

I am interested in a Box Blade for the gravel driveway but I feel stepping back to a 5 footer would be the proper choice.

I run a 5ft box blade with my 790 as well, which also has the R4's on it. I have no doubt it will push/pull a 6ft blade, but it will hit that stall point sooner. Now, if you had the R1 ag tires that were loaded with ballast, I think it would handle the 6ft well considering the work you intend to use it for.

You didn't mention if your 790 was 4x4 or not. That will be a big plus if you do have it.

You can always get a 6ft, and see how it works for you. If you find it bogs down and spins the tires too easily, then put the 6ft blade on craigslist and go buy you (or trade for) a 5ft blade. Good luck.

Not a good idea....implements, with the exceptions of PTO driven chippers and (maybe) RFMs take a big hit when sold used.
