I'm looking for a lightweight grapple (48 in would be ok). All the ones in a search of threads are no longer available and I'd rather not have just a bucket addon type. The 419 FEL doesn't have much lift capacity but I don't plan to be lifting heavy loads.
Also on the 790, what is this type of attachment called? pin-on?

Thanks

Pin on is the original bucket attachment method. Quick attach adapters first pin on, then you have a secondary 'quick attach' interface. There's lots of grapple mfg's out there and you could start a small riot here talking about them.. I got mine (a pin-on) from rootgrapple.com and it's the best one, according to everybody.:D

Another thing.. 'quick attach' adapters move your load a few inches further out, decreasing your lift power, if that's a concern for you.

Actually, the 419 loader is quite robust for the size and weight of the 790.
However, it weighs about about 250 lbs, so you'll want to get a grapple that replaces the bucket rather then an add-on.
Markham made them, IIRC.

Your 419 loader already has the JDQA (John Deere Quick Attach), both WR Long and Gator Attachments make a light duty grapple that will replace your bucket. You will also need to add hydraulic's to your machine to control it.

Here is some pictures of mine on my 410 loader, it's the LD-48 from Gator (used to be Markham till they sold)

Do a search on these terms for HOURS of reading, then come back with specific questions.

I sure like the looks of that grapple.

Have come close to fabricating a single "thumb" on my forks mostly for logs and brush moving. Guess I should look closer at what Gator has to offer, but thinking I'd prefer to go under logs and brush with the forks rather than the rakers. :confused3:

I don't think you'll do better than the Gator 48light duty with JD pin on mounts. Lots written about it on TBN. Search Markham or Gator grapple (same thing).

Thanks for the replies. I had already searched and read everything but was concerned because most weighed about 350lb+ and wasn't sure what type attachment mine was called. I've also read posts about adding a 3rd function to control the grapple (I'll probably have questions about that later). If these aren't too heavy then I can order one with the correct hookup.

Your machine will handle it just fine.
