The smaller, "one sided" sweeps will serve you best on the tines next to the plants. You can use a slightly larger, double crow foot on the tine that is in the middle of the row that just rakes out your tractor track.

Pix would help a lot. :)

then speed has factor of how much dirt covers plant and weeds which is the total purpose of cultivating covering and pulling weeds out. i also seen Danish they are called supposed to vibrate to get weeds to top so can dry out but i cant imagine they go very deep to be able to vibrate and get weeds to top of ground. you heard or used them before. the cultivator now has chisel on front row and 2-3 row have the double crow feet on them...

And do not forget the sheilds ... I use the rolling shields and think they are the best.

The rolling ones only work up until the plants are about 6" tall, at the most. Then you start to knock them over. So... if you want to cultivate after the plants get taller, you will have to remove or lift the rolling shields out of the way.

I would suggest you go to a major ag dealership, if you are in an agricultural area. If you are, they may have some laying around that you could adapt to fit your particular cultivator. If not, you're going to have to call around. They're not real common anymore, as the use of Roundup Ready crops has drastically decreased the amount of cultivating done.

A company called Shoup Mfg, may have want you're looking for new, but they're probably more money than what you've got in your two row cultivator (if it's an old one, which most tend to be). Hope that helps.

Shoup has a website, but I couldn't find what you're looking for. However, they have an 800 number, and they're very helpful. One of my friends works for them.

A two row cultivator is big for most true gardens, normally only one row. If you have any speed you probably will need to use narrower plows than you think, slower little wider.

If you are setting them up normally they need to be wide so they over lap a little the sweep in front.

Best advice I can give you is this: set aside a piece of land say four rows at least wide near your garden. What ever you plan to do in the garden first try it here. You disk it and bed it just like your garden. Then when you go to plow with cultivators you test there and don't leave until you are pleased.

i went to farm auction and i bought the 2 row for half the price a 1 row was going for figured it would be ok with i mostly do sweet corn anyways. ya i thought about doing another piece of ground but if i plow disc and cultivate it you can bet your a@# it will have corn or beans in it. lol that my weakness if i find more places to grow veggies its gonna grow veggies. i tried a little about a month ago when it was around 60 you could definitely see where the rows would be it mounded them up but i was moving around 5-6 mph. i guess i will have to play a little bit. has anyone run those BEET SWEEPS before? they look mighty sick for the weeds anyways maybe i need to cultivate and then change sweeps and go again. i read somewhere and it was a darn good idea of cultivating one way then turning around go in same row but opposite way you just went i guess that would about get all the weeds i need to get but alot more time, gas, wear and tear and gives something else time to break or quit running if you have my luck .... lol

I am now getting ready to start back farming. I grew up on this farm and moved back here and bought it back 18 years ago. I,m ready to start farming again, but there is so much I don,t remember. I,m going to buy a cultivator, but I don,t remember what size plow points to use. I need an all around set up, so what size points [ plow,s ] do I need. If I remember correctly dad used 6 inch on the front and 12 inch on the back. 2 ROW CULTIVATOR.

You also need to know the shank angle and it's either 54 or 47 degrees. Depends on the brand of equipment. Cultivators can be set up all kinds of ways and it's a subjective, personal and regional thing. Probably no two will agree.
